I’m planning my first trip around Southeast Asia sometime later this year and I’m having a hard time deciding where to start. I’ve been looking at Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, but each one looks amazing for different reasons.

I’m mostly into good food, friendly locals, nature, beaches, city life, and places that are still affordable for travelers. I also enjoy slow travel more than rushing between places. Safety and easy transportation matter too since I’ll probably be traveling solo for part of the trip.

For people who have already traveled around Southeast Asia, which country gave you the best overall experience and why? I’d also love to hear any unexpected favorites or places that completely surprised you.
