Do you agree with Abby? I’d love the opinions of other moms of young families. I’m thinking about ditching the obligatory Mother’s Day dinner and staying home with my little family doing what I want to do. Is that rude? For context, my mom lives in another state and my husbands mom is not very involved (she’s a kind person, but only see her a few times a year despite only living a few towns over), my husbands stepmom is way more involved in our lives and would rather spend it with her side of the family if I’m not at home. Thoughts? Is Abby on to something or is it rude?

I’d like some advice. My son has played the cello for 5 years. We just upgraded from the 1/8 A3000 to 1/4 A4000 less than a month ago. We were out of town last week, so he’s played it less than 10 times. We have a polycarbonate case and hang it on the wall with proper equipment just like the luthier’s shop. We can home from being gone for 6 days. The top plate is cracked. I’m horrified because it’s a brand new trade in with the luthier that we first bought his instrument with years ago. This is his second trade in(third cello from this shop). I’m going to talk to the shop tomorrow, but would love some advice. There is not a stated warranty, but assume there is some expectation to guarantee the instrument to a certain point. It’s only been taken out of our home twice and either me or his dad gets it down and puts it away, so I know it hasn’t been dropped or knocked over. The sticker inside the f holes did it was made in 2023. It was most likely previously used and refurbished for their trade in program. I’m just genuinely confused how this happened since we have had it less than a month, it’s been minimally used, and haven’t had issues with any cracks for 5 years. In fact, our luthier didn’t charge us the full clean and restoring fee because our cello was in such great shape and was told that the fee would be good even for a violin. Anyways I’m just wondering how to approach this with the shop, get the cello repaired at no cost, and maintain a good relationship with them since we like to upgrade our instrument with them.
