Would you buy a 2018 Expedition Max Limited 4x4 with 125k miles if the 10R80 CDF issue and cam phasers were already repaired?
Looking for opinions from Expedition owners/mechanics.
I’m considering a 2018 Ford Expedition Max Limited 4x4 with 125,000 miles. Seller is asking $21,000 and is firm on price.
History looks clean on CARFAX:
1-owner
No accidents reported
No title issues
No odometer issues
Regular oil changes documented
Major repairs/history:
10R80 transmission was overhauled by Ford at around 80,000 miles with the newer updated CDF component, and it has driven about 44k miles since that transmission repair.
Had cam phaser/VCT rattle history
Seller recently did timing-related work including timing chain/tensioners, VCT solenoids, cam parts, cam sprockets, gaskets, coolant, oil/filter, etc.
Also had valve cover leak repaired, heater hose/coolant leak repaired, and seatbelt recall done
My main concern is buying a high-mileage 3.5 EcoBoost/10R80 Expedition even though the big known issues appear to have been addressed.
Would you consider this a decent buy at $21,000, or is 125k miles still too risky on these?
