Just Completed the PS2 Port
Sup all.
Going through PS2 games that I never played, I saw that Deux Ex had a port that I didn't know about. Decided to load it up on my Steam Deck and give it a shot. Being a big fan of the first game, I knew what I was getting into, though I didn't know about how different it was on the PS2.
I played it all the way through, exploring nearly everything I could find (missed Ford Schick, which I was bummed about, wanted to see the MJ12 sewer system under Hell's Kitchen). Then I got to my preferred ending to merge with Helios.
First of all, I am quite surprised that the UI was pretty damn seamless and snappy. Really liked the right side / left side kinda system they had going on with augs and inventory. the model updates on the characters seem okay, with a few added animations (crouch firing and dropping carried bodies). Anna's model seems the most off-putting as she's meant to have one eye, the other being cybernetics.
The maps themselves were confusing at first, as there's fences or walls where normally it'd be open on the PC version. So the large maps were subdivided into their own load zones with S-shaped pathways being something I saw constantly. Also, I found the Free Clinic in Hell's Kitchen on my 3rd visit... it was in a location that's normally got nothing going for it on PC.
Overall, I'd be content playing the PS2 version again if I wanted to give DX another go. To me, I'd call them interchangeable. I didn't see any content loss, it was more reorganized to fit the PS2.
Just wanted to post this here and say I was pleasantly surprised with it, and would 10/10 play it again on PS2.
