Should I get a motorcycle or scooter for the year I'll live in NYC?

Im moving to NYC in August, going to live in Greenwhich Village for about 10 months before leaving. Is it at all worth it to try to find a bike or maybe scooter to get around?

Ive been driving for 25 years, riding in California traffic for about 7 years. I'll have my car parked in a secure garage in Jersey and dont expect to use it unless getting out of town for a few days.

Anyone who lives in NYC give me some perspective? Worth it to buy something cheap or nah?

EDIT; Thanks everyone!

I just drove from California to Indiana, hit 100k miles literally yesterday in the middle of Wyoming. I'm the 2nd owner, bought the car with 55k in 2020 from the Jag dealer that originally sold it, had a 1 year CPO.

I have taken VERY good care of this car, and its been great to me back. Now to the issue...

I just drove 2,100 miles in three days and they were flawless. Averaged 70mph and 25mpg. I was literally three miles from my destination when EDIFF FAULT popped up on my gauges. This may or may not have been accompanied by a whine from the diff. But, I was driving various speeds over different pavement surfaces so I dont know. I do know that whwn I got on a patch of fresh smooth asphalt there was no sound, so right now im going 50/50 on whether it was the pavement or the diff. Otherwise there were zero other symptoms.

I made it to my destination without further issue. Turned off the car, unloaded my stuff, it sat about 20 mins. Came back, started it and drove into the parking garage. Warning was gone. I did a few tight turns and goosed the throttle a little, no sounds or feelings or symptoms or anything. So now I dont know what to think.

My biggest issue now is that Im now 2,000 miles from home base. I have no tools, no garage or even driveway, no mechanic shop, nothing! And im currently moving across the country so the car isnt going back. Am I screwed? Was this just a glitch that went away? Do i just wait for it to come back? Im going to bed now and Im really hoping to wake up to someone telling me its no big deal!

Further info). Diff was serviced at the british shop around 18-24 mos ago without issue. Had the trans drained and filled a couple months ago. No other recent work done on or issues with any part of the drivetrain any time recently.

Thank you!
