Recently purchased a 2006 Montero with 126k miles and I'm getting her caught up on maintenance.
So far I've fixed the rear door, replaced a second row seat, fixed the glovebox, changed the oil, front and rear diffs, transfer case. Now I'm tackling the cooling system before I move on to the timing belt and transmission filter service.
This is after about 6 gallons of flushing with distilled water and it's finally starting to lighten up. (Left to right) It looks like the coolant was probably never changed in 20 years.
I am planning to run a course of Thermocure and continue to flush but my questions are:
Should I pause the flushing and go ahead and start on the timing belt and water pump replacement then run the Thermocure through it? Or should I keep flushing with distilled water until this starts to get more clear up more?
I want to knock out the tbelt so I feel more confident about driving it with the Thermocure and continue to run the motor without worrying about the belt going.
Has anyone seen coolant this bad?
Thoughts?
