If a young man in Taiwan is told he is cute, is this generally interpreted as the Kawai type of cute as in Japan or would it be interpreted as it is in general usage in the US, where it means that the commenter finds him attractive. What is the preferred word for both? In the US it depends on context. A puppy is cute. But a young man can also be cute, as in attractive.
