Summer EI
Are there any supply teachers who purposely wait until August to apply to LTO so that if they can’t find a job in the summer then you can at least get EI? I love my school, but I have bills to pay and I live paycheck to paycheck. I think there’s gonna be a few openings and as much as I want to apply for them, I’m not going to. I’ve heard from multiple teachers where they signed a contract in June and then in September the permanent teacher decides that they’re gonna come back so now those LTO’s have lost their job and they also couldn’t get EI over the summer because they supposedly had a job lined up. LTO’s are never guaranteed jobs so to have us locked in for two months and not be able to get EI because we supposedly have a job lined up in September is just so unfair. Is there anyone who stopped applying to LTO’s until August or later in the year for this reason? Do you tell admin that you’re not gonna apply if they ask because you need EI?
