Unfair Warranty Denial by Spiderwire

Buyers beware!!! Spiderwire / Berkley fishing lines.

A relative got a 50lb Spiderwire Braided Line on Amazon in July 2025 under a year of purchase from Amazon. Spiderwire denied the warranty based on the date code on the spool being a 2022 date code.

This is unethical and unprofessional and not in line with fair trade practices. Let the buyer beware. Pure Fishing is out to scam buyers.

Pure Fishing Brands (including Spiderwire & Berkley) - A Warranty Scam

Stop buying Spiderwire / Berkley fishing lines. This company is a scam.

I wanted to share a pretty frustrating experience and see if anyone else has run into similar issues with Spiderwire Dura braid.

Over the last 3–4 fishing outings, I’ve had consistent failures across three different lines:

15lb Moss Green Dura-4 (3000 yds): Snapping during normal casting and light retrieval. Completely unexpected for that rating.

30lb Moss Green Dura-4 (1500 yds): Line breaking while reeling in average-sized fish—nothing close to max load.

40lb Hi-Vis Yellow Dura Braid (3000 yds): Sudden break-offs during casting and moderate tension use.

This wasn’t a one-off. These failures happened repeatedly under normal fishing conditions, using standard setups and weights.

I lost a significant amount of line (multiple spools worth), rigs, and tackle because of this.

To make things worse, I filed a warranty claim with the manufacturer (Pure Fishing / Spiderwire). They initially asked for photos—which I provided—but then denied the claim because I no longer had the empty spools.
Please note the photos of the spools were taken and sent to them before the empty spools were thrashed unknowingly the next day by a family member.

Even though,

That requirement wasn’t clearly stated upfront

The line failures themselves caused most of the loss

I had already submitted photo evidence

They offered a 45% discount on a replacement rod (which is unrelated to the defective braided lines in question) instead of honoring the claim, which honestly feels like a deflection rather than a resolution.

At this point, I’m questioning both the quality of the product and the fairness of their warranty process.

👉 Has anyone else had issues with Dura braid lines failing prematurely?

👉 Is this a known problem or just bad batches?

Would appreciate hearing others’ experiences before I switch brands entirely.
