Hair loss + low Vitamin D & borderline B12 – could this be the cause? M26

Hey everyone,

I’ve been dealing with noticeable hair loss lately and got some blood work done. I’m trying to understand if my levels could be contributing before I go to a dermatologist.

Here are my results:

Vitamin levels:

Vitamin D3: 18.29 ng/mL (low)

Vitamin B12: 257 pg/mL (borderline low)

Iron studies:

Serum Iron: 116 µg/dL

TIBC: 397 µg/dL

UIBC: 281 µg/dL

Transferrin Saturation: 29.22%

Ferritin: 98.9 ng/mL

Lipid profile (not sure if relevant but sharing anyway):

Total Cholesterol: 225 mg/dL

Triglycerides: 159 mg/dL

HDL: 53 mg/dL

LDL: 140.2 mg/dL

From what I’ve read:

Vitamin D seems clearly low

B12 is borderline

My questions:

Could low Vitamin D and borderline B12 be causing or worsening my hair loss?

Has anyone here seen improvement in hair after correcting these levels?

Is it safe/reasonable to start Vitamin D and B12 supplements before seeing a dermatologist, or should I wait?

Any insights or similar experiences would really help 🙏

Need review of my restructured 30k SIP portfolio from Old portfolio

Hi all,

I started investing with limited knowledge and initially built a mostly index-based portfolio. Now that I understand things better, I’ve restructured it and increased my SIP to 30k/month. I’d appreciate feedback on whether my reasoning and allocation make sense.

Investment Horizon: 15 Years+

Risk Profile/ Risk Tolerance: Aggressive

Goal: Retirement

App used: Coin

Old Plan:-
UTI NIFTY 50 index - 5k

UTI next 50 index - 3k

ICICI Midcap 150 index - 5k

Nippon smallcap 250 index - 3k

Nasdaq 100 - 4k

ICICI Prudential Gold ETF - 2k

New Plan:-
Paragh parikh flexi cap - 12k (Due to its consistent return and controlled dips in downfall of market)

UTI NIFTY 50 INDEX- 5K (As there is limited opportunity with fund manager to change and select in Large cap )

UTI Next 50 index - Stop new investment as PPFC and N50 is enough for large cap exposure

HDFC Midcap active fund - 6k (As this is a sector where Managers in active fund can optimise returns )

Nippon smallcap active fund - 2K (As this is where managers select good and can reduce bad small cap stocks )

Nasdaq 100 - 4k (Cant change as fund has stopped taking further changes )

ICICI Prudential Gold - 3K As hedge fund 10%

**Questions:**

  1. Does this allocation look over-diversified or reasonably balanced?
  2. Is my midcap allocation (7k) too aggressive?
  3. Any major overlaps or inefficiencies I’m missing?

**Note:** I’ve stopped SIPs in my old funds but not selling them to avoid taxes and let them compound. Further there is nothing fundamentally wrong with these funds.

Would appreciate any suggestions or critique.

Do I really need Parag Parikh Flexi Cap if I already invest in index funds?

I currently invest in UTI Nifty 50, UTI Next 50, ICICI Midcap 150, NIPPON Smallcap 250 index funds + ICICI Nasdaq 100.

Thinking about adding Paragh Parikh Flexi Cap Fund because of its alpha, low beta, and consistency.

Curious to hear thoughts — do you mix active funds like this with index investing?
Does adding good active MFs(HDFC Midcap, PPFC etc.) make sense to this type of portfolio?
