UA Local 447 / NorCal union workers – question about testing & expectations

What’s up everyone,

I’m looking into getting into the union out here in Northern California, specifically UA Local 447, and I had a question for anyone already in or who’s been through the process.

How strict are things when it comes to drug testing (mainly weed)? I’m serious about putting in the work, learning the trade, and building a career, I’m not trying to mess anything up, just want to understand what I’m walking into.

Also, do all contractors test the same way or does it vary job to job?

If you’d rather not comment publicly, feel free to message me, I’d really appreciate any insight.

Do unions still care about marijuana use?

Hey everyone, I’m looking into getting into a union trade (possibly HVAC) and wanted some real insight from people already in.

How serious are unions about marijuana these days? I know laws are changing depending on the state, but I’m trying to understand how it’s actually handled on the job and during hiring.

I’m more than willing to work hard, show up, and learn everything I can. I just want to know what to realistically expect so I don’t mess up an opportunity.

Is it an automatic no-go, or does it depend on the union/company?

Appreciate any honest experiences.
