Tour of our urban jungalow
I've posted my jungle cohabitants before, but due to the interest, here's an semi-updated tour of our space!
Thanks to my girlfriend's over the top patience when it comes to my plant obsession.
Also, this video was made in the fall so there has been significant gains in a few of my guys: the monstera in my boys' bedroom has since been repotted and is now 8', the Thai con has been repotted and moved and has blown out several new leaves, and the living room and one of the bedroom FLF have many new leaves. I'll try posting pictures in the comments.
A few questions answered:
Humidity levels are between 50-75% with plenty of airflow and I've never had a mold issue. There's a humidifier in every room when needed.
Contrary to some belief, watering doesn't take all that long. Roughly 10-15 minutes/week. All watering is city tap water and gets happyhappyhouseplant plant food.
Systemic granules and periodic neem has kept pests at bay for the past several years. There have been some incidents but everything seems to work out. I have looked into predatory bugs but I feel I haven't really done enough research yet.
3 south-facing windows, and a plethora of GE PAR38 and Sansi bulbs hang from pendant light cords that are on timers 12-16hrs/day.
And our newest addition is our betta's 5.5g planted quasi-black water tank that doubles as a terrestrial plant prop station, and a planted 2.5g shrimp and snail beverage dispenser. Both double as plant water sources.
My first plant is the 9' FLF next to the TV. It's been chopped several times and has given life to several other FLFs scattered around.
I typically use driftwood that I find by a dam nearby, cleaned with bleach and dried, but I use cedar planks for my larger monsteras... All of my climbers seem to do well grabbing onto these (including catching the random pothos and monstera clinging onto the drywall (thankfully without damage).
My oldest is a 27 year old parlor palm
Also no, the cow rug is not real
