Transition from IT to Finance?

Has anyone here transitioned from IT to some form of finance role or know someone who has? Im approaching 40 and im starting to think about how I want to spend next 25 years. I’m not sure IT is the answer given offshoring, AI and constant need to keep grinding.

Finance seems like a safer bet long term while maintaining quality of life, livable salary and low risk of offshoring and AI.

Transition to OT for job security?

I’m concerned about outlook for network engineers at my company and there are few opportunities elsewhere locally. There are potentially opportunities for OT at my current org. To me it seems OT is years behind IT and will be safe from AI and outsourcing for forseeable future due to the criticality of the environment. Further, it often requires on-site presence where most net Eng jobs can be easily shipped overseas.

Thoughts?

IT to OT for job security?

I’m a network engineer with 15yeo. I work for a global manufacturer. The company already no longer hires out of US. Everything is offshored to India and Mexico. I like where I am currently but have major concerns about 5 and especially 10yr outlook. There are few opportunities in my town and we have no intention of moving with a 2.75% mortgage. Remote roles still exist but they are drying up.

We do have OT opportunities at the company and I feel this may be the long-term ticket. OT seems (at my company at least) 10-15yrs behind IT and it seems most orgs are vehemently opposed to outsourcing OT engineers, allowing remote access etc.

On surface it seems like a great opportunity for long term security in age of AI. Thoughts?

Arista Pre-Sales

I’m a network engineer with active CCIE. My goal for next few years is to transition into pre-sales. I do have some minor presales adjacent experience from my MSP/VAR days about 10 years ago but not much since.
I love what Arista is doing; they remind me of old-school Cisco befors they started caring more about shareholders.

Can anyone offer advice on how to stand apart from the crowd when applying? Does Arista value technical skills over soft skills for the pre-sales role or vice versa?
Any tips for the interview? For a pre-sales role would something like a blog or YouTube channel be valuable?

Appreciate any insights you can offer.

I’m considering trading my Tundra for one of these. Bulk of my driving is commuting and I don’t tow. I definitely want ER but Flash doesn’t have power mirrors (weird overshight) so feel like entering and exiting my garage everyday is going to be a pain and potential for damage.

Anyone settle for the flash and regret not going Lariat?
