Hi all,

So my braces journey has become...complicated. I'm 15months into a 24-36 month estimate to fix an open bite. I've had 4 premolars out and now just waiting for gaps to close.

It turns out my impacted wisdom tooth has destroyed the roots of the adjacent molar. I now face losing my upper second molar. I have no idea what impact this will have on my bite and the future of my upper and lower arch.

I'm awaiting recommendation by my ortho but from what I've read I have 2 options..

  1. See if they can use tads to straighten my wisdom tooth and then extrud it and drag it forward to fill the gap. Even if this is possible, it will add on cost and time. But will be cheaper and better than an implant.

  2. Get a dental implant. These things are like 3k in London. Almost half of what my ortho work cost. For 1 single tooth.

This wasn't in my plans but I guess life happens. The hole in my pocket keeps growing.

I don't suppose anyone has had a similar experience? Any advice?

I'm half way through orthodontic treatment to align my bite. I've had 4 premolars out. Now my impacted wisdom tooth appears to be damaging the molar next to it.

I've attached my cbct scan but naturally don't understand what it means. I'm currently waiting for my ortho to get back to me but figured I'd ask in here for abit of heads up?

I was having jaw pain which moved on to ear pain but now seems to have resolved, just leaving a ringing in my ear. Not sure if this means there's an infection?

Would appreciate any help.

Hi all,

So I'm half way through with my metal braces treatment. Had 4 premolars extracted. Moved to gap closure and had elastics and powerchains. Elastics seem to have caused pain in my left jaw. They were on for 4 months and hurt pretty much all the time. I was told to battle on so I kept them on. Looking back, I don't think this was a good idea.

The ortho removed my elastics 3 weeks ago. My jaw, specifically by my left ear but also the rest of my cheek, aches all the time. There's low ringing in my left ear too. Nurophen helps with the pain but that also slows teeth movement and not good for long term use.

Did anyone else develop temporary tmj dysfunction during treatment? Please tell me it goes away? I don't have clicking, popping, or pain when opening wide or chewing. I don't clench my jaw. Just constant ache by my ear. No headache or ear pain yet. Just low ringing in my ear.

Im trying to get a referral for a CBCT scan for an impacted wisdom tooth on my upper left side. I'm hoping it's the impaction triggering nerve pain rather than TMJ issues. That way the pain should go away once I have it extracted? Not sure if that's possible but here's hoping.
