We are the next god of humanity
Heavy spoilers for the ending ahead!
>!To clarify the title of this post- I believe there is a very good argument to be made that Ragn, the cleric, is implied to be similar in nature to Urth. I believe that both the lore and the main gameplay system is supposed to convey that Ragn has the potential to become powerful in the same way Urth is.!<
>!Additionally I have only done one playthrough so far as a druid with lots of wis, cha and int in that order. Some of the background information on Ragn may have been different in your playthrough depending on what path you chose for yourself. I do not know if the game changes it in that manner.!<
>!First off, the meaning of the term "god" will have to be clarified in this context, because Urth is not a god in the same sense as most other fantasy media portrays them, nor in the way real life religions think of theirs. Urth is not a divine being, but rather a sort of extremely powerful spellcaster, and his godhood comes from him simultaneously being the figurehead for humans settling on the continent in which the game takes place. He has two main things going for him, both of which originate from his deep understanding/manipulation of the strings. He is a) a powerful magic caster, and b) able to see the future. This second ability is what boosts him from powerful wizard to god. But he doesn´t just get visions of the future, but rather he can see how the probability of certain futures is, and can also see how those probabilities shift depending on the actions of him and others. Though it does not start out particularly spectacularly, as he is initially only able to tell if he´s going to screw up fixing a shoe in his fathers workshop, it grows in reach over time and is what eventually enables him to become such an effective leader all on his own.!<
>!To recap: Urth is a mortal human being who is considered a god due to his powerful spellcasting and ability to see different futures and their probabilities, both of which are born from his deep and seemingly intuitive understanding of the strings.!<
>!So right from the get go Ragn isn´t immediately disqualified from godhood by virtue of being human. He also possesses a deep and intuitive understanding of the strings, as evidenced by him being immediately able to absorb any spell scroll he comes across, much to the astonishment of a literal lich. It is also mentioned on multiple occasions that Ragn was one of the best students in the tower when it came to spellcasting, and his teachers didn´t seem to understand how he came to master spells so easily. This covers both the potential for powerful spellcasting and an innate understanding of strings, however the most important part of what makes Urth a god is never attributed to Ragn in the lore: his clairvoyance.!<
>!Evidence of this is only to be found in one place: every single skillcheck you ever do in the entire game. Each and every time you choose a dialogue option that requires a skill check you are presented with three pieces of information: the difficulty of the check, how good you are at doing it and what you have done to make the check easier or harder for yourself. So, you see your odds of success, can tell what has affected them, and can sometimes watch them change in real time when you take certain other dialogue options. Sound familiar? Now all of this is still much less powerful than what Urth can do, but he started out small as well, and there is actually one instance where Ragn´s powers of clairvoyance show signs of evolving. The very last action you take. Upon casting your ballot, you are presented with a Number next to the dialogue option where the dice used to be: 50%!<
I find that all of this makes a compelling case that Ragn is of a similar nature to Urth and could be his successor as god of mankind, but please feel free to tell me why I´m wrong. I am very excited about this idea but I´d hate to sit here all smug while a dev straight up dismissed this theory already or some such.
