Anyone else rely heavily on the jump ahead/skip feature for podcasts?
So this might be a weird thing to fixate on but hear me out.
I've been a YouTube Premium subscriber for like 3 years now, and honestly one of the features i use most isn't the ad-free stuff (though that's nice obviously), it's the jump forward button. You know how some episodes have that 10-15 minute intro, or they go on a tangent about their sponsor's mattress for the fifth time? Being able to just skip ahead to the actual content has genuinely changed how i consume stuff. I didn't realize how much i relied on it until i tried going back to regular podcast apps.
The thing is, most dedicated podcast players don't really have anything like this? Like yeah you get the 15 second skip button but that's not what i mean. I'm talking about intelligently jumping to the next topic or segment, not just scrubbing forward blindly and hoping you land somewhere good.
I've been messing around with different apps trying to find something that does jump ahead for podcasts the way YouTube handles it for video, and honestly most of them just... don't. Pocket Casts, Overcast, even Spotif, they all have the basic skip but nothing smart about it.
Then last week i stumbled on this app called Podtastic that actually does topic highlighting, so you can see what segments are in an episode and jump between them. First time i've found something that scratches that same itch as the YouTube feature. It's not perfect, sometimes the topic detection is a little off, especially on more conversational pods where they jump around a lot, but it's the closest thing i've found.
Am i the only one who cares about this? Like i feel like for longer episodes (2+ hours, looking at you JRE and Huberman) being able to skip to specific topics is almost essential. I genuinely don't understand why more apps haven't figured this out yet.
What do you all use for navigating longer episodes? Do you just suffer through or do you have a system?
