New Resin Parts: Dark Green + Lime Green

My latest batch fresh out the molds - came out pretty close to what I wanted (the karzahni chest plate color). It’s a slightly more muted tone on the lime green compared to the original part but it definitely passable and under certain lighting almost indistinguishable (I think I need to find a white/opaque resin instead of clear for some of the brighter LEGO colors).

Also deviated from the original part by adding a dark green mica powder to the dark green pigment I was mixing so it got a little metallic shine to it as well.

It’s almost time to assemble my elemental team of carapars…

Anyway got some new molds in the works, and I’ve almost finished putting together a step-by-step guide with pictures for my mold making process to help you guys start making your own molds

Resin Bionicle Parts: Fire and Ice

Socketball did it better but this was a fun experiment with making more elemental looking blends of opaques with translucent secondaries. Also showcasing a new mold I just finished that came out excellent: the movie edition Kraahkan.

INFO ABOUT SELLING IN THE FUTURE:

With the amount of people who’ve reached out about buying I’d like to start doing some occasional drops (located in US - I’ve ever looked into international shipping but could be open at buyer expense). Still working out the details so there will probably be a dedicated post soon once I’ve had more time to finalize a pricing structure and finish cleaning up these pieces.

The plan is to sell full color sets with masks and armor together rather than singles - at least for the most part, since my colorways are more of an artistic experiment in blending and marbling that usually won’t be 1:1 matches with factory LEGO colors. Selling as complete sets makes more sense so buyers get something cohesive for MOCs.

Pricing will probably land around $15-30 per mask depending on the mold and maybe the patterns, with armor sets in a similar range scaled by piece count. Materials, equipment and time add up so they won’t be dirt cheap, but I’ll be grading pieces and pricing them accordingly.

As far as commissions go, I could be open to some but there would be fees to develop new silicone molds if you want masks that I don’t have yet and I’d like to lean away from single color/color matching orders for now.

What’s even real anymore?

Made a new mold cause I always wanted more nocturn species options. Came out visually very nice but requires a little work to clear out some of the tooth holes.

For those of you who aren’t already deeply familiar - some of these are official Lego parts and some are a durable, pigmented epoxy resin that I cast under pressure in silicone molds.

This was a repeat of the “Black Cherry” set I did recently but with more purple in the translucent half.

These weren’t fully cleaned at the time I took the photos so there’s still a little flash around some edges here and there but this was just to showcase the overall the color combo and pattern/distribution which I thought came out really nice.

I still have a few more sets of casts that I’m trimming up some edges on and letting cure fully before I get around to posting them but expect more updates soon.

Another experiment with mixing solid and translucent colors. Got some really interesting blending effects and the armor color proportions were spot on.

This set of parts was meant to be a dual colored gold + clear purple which was only really captured on some of the armor pieces where I didn’t brush mica powder on the surface of the mold, but the result of mostly solid gold still looks pretty good. It’s not the classic pearl gold but it’s close to the gold zamor sphere launcher color.

This effect was mostly from dusting the mold with mica powder which covers up most of the through-coloring behind it and gives the parts a more metallic/reflective appearance.

(Note: these haven’t been fully cleaned of all flash from the molds yet)

Made a couple new molds (axalara miru, mask of life, 4 armor pieces, and a chest plate).

Did a cast in black/white resin to test them all out and aside from a few minor defects and one major mold-making mistake on my part they came out great.

Doing the armor and chest plate allows me to make full armor sets to match pattern/marbling of the custom masks as I make them since it can be difficult to do a perfect color match or achieve the same flow to the marbling across different casts.

Also, got decently close to matching pearl gold while I was testing out some mica powders on my previous cast - you can see along the edge of the rahkshi mask where it has the yellow undertone compared to brutakas mask.
