Planning a basic track on a grass field
We own a field next to the house which is flat and grassy. It previously had horses in so it is a bit too bumpy to easily ride bikes on (especially kids). I've been planning to build a very simple oval track around the fence line for running/easy riding. The plan is to use that track for a bit of running training and then to create off shoots for jumps as my kids get a bit bigger and better on their bikes (and for me).
I'm interested in ideas for making the base. I'd be happy with a dirt single track. My current plan is to hire a turf cutter, and then back fill the space with some sand/soil mix to then compact with a plate whacker. Anyone have experience with this?
I'm in the north east of England, the field is fairly dry as it has a slight gradient and is higher than the surroundings.
The jumps can come later as the eldest (5) is happy with a simple wooden ramp currently.
Any thoughts very much appreciated!
