How To Do If Victim of Solar Scam
I rent a room in a house and my landlord is a senior citizen. Recently, though well before I moved in, he got scammed by a solar company. Sales rep smooth-talked him and because he's a naturally trusting person and doesn't follow the news, my landlord ended up handing over his SS on big promises. Company pulled out a loan from Mosaic and put a lien on his house. A work crew did come and install solar panels, but the system was nothing like what was pitched to him and doesn't even work. Work crew also left a mess in his yard when they left. Now he's stuck paying 275/mo on that loan. The sales rep is no longer reachable and the company itself is dissolved, the typical story.
I've already advised him to report the fraud to the authorities and get a credit freeze, but that's not gonna help the monthly loan bill he has. He doesn't have a lot of money to work with. He was contacted by a law firm specializing in solar scam litigation (Prevost), but they are demanding money de doesn't have up front. I was wondering if anyone could point him in the direction of some law firms that do contingency or some other legal options he has that won't break his bank?
