Anyone else obsessed with murder mystery parties? Looking for people who've hosted one

Hosted my first murder mystery dinner last year and it completely took over my brain. Spent weeks trying to find the right format: every kit I found was either too rigid for my group size or required me to assign characters weeks in advance.

Ended up piecing together my own version the night before. It was chaos. People loved it anyway.

Curious if anyone here has hosted one. What worked, what fell apart, how did you handle people dropping out last minute? Specifically trying to figure out if the "everyone gets a secret role" format actually lands or if it just confuses people who aren't into improv.

Currently built a site to enhance the murder mystery gaming and I'm not sure if the pricing is right or makes sense. Everything is free during Beta, but here is what it will be currently after Beta:

22.99 Lifetime ownership of a Murder Mystery

14.99 Monthly for VIP, access to play all Murder Mysteries while active, If you buy a murder mystery to keep forever, its discounted to 9.99

149.99 Annually for VIP, same as Monthly but to purchase a murder mystery is reduced to 8.99

Does this make sense or is it too complicated? How is the pricing? I feel this is very good and competitive, but just looking for honest feedback. Thank you

Alibi Archives - Murder Mysteries done easy

So I had recently played a murder mystery with friends and we had a blast but there were some outlining issues.

  1. One of the players couldn't make it the day of, so we had to have someone read his part.
  2. No formal invite system, I played one sometime ago where you could mail an invite out but it seems clunky and an afterthought.
  3. The prep work for the host or game owner was tedious and sometimes took the player out of their role and was complicated.

So I had set up to absolve these things and add other features and ended up making it so much better. I've been enjoying what I've built so far, but now I'm in the time when I need test players to see what's working or broken. Its funny how this boring idea evolved into something I can enjoy with my friends. Let me know if you want to try it out for free.
