3.5yo already 68 lbs… outgrown harness but not 4 yet. Safest next step?
Hi CPSTs! I could really use some guidance because I feel like my daughter is in a weird in between situation and I just want to do whatever is safest. She is 3.5, about 43 inches tall and weighs 67–68 lbs. She’s currently in a Graco SlimFit 3in1 and has been forward facing in the 5 point harness, but I now realize she’s over the 65 lb limit so I’m assuming that means the harness mode is outgrown. What’s throwing me off is that I keep seeing boosters are usually recommended starting at age 4, so I feel stuck on what is actually safest for her right now.
She does sit pretty well in the car but she’s still 3 so not perfect every second, and we also have a Mazda CX-5 and will need to do 3 across soon with newborn twins currently on the way. My priority is 100 percent safety, I just want to make the right call and not mess this up. Is a high back booster appropriate for her at this age given her size or is there a better option? Are there any harnessed seats with higher limits that would be safer in this situation? And if anyone has done 3 across in a CX-5 with a bigger kid like this I would love to hear what worked for you. Thank you so much!
