Is it okay to ask about summer holiday before starting a new job?

I’m about to start a new job in a month, and I’m trying to plan a summer holiday. Normally, I was thinking of taking around 1 month off, but I realize that might be too long given I’ll be just starting a new role.

At the same time, if I wait until I start, flight and hotel prices will likely go up quite a bit, so I’m considering asking about it in advance.

My questions:

Would it be weird or inappropriate to bring this up before even starting?

What would be a “reasonable” amount of time off in the first few months?

How would you phrase this without sounding entitled?

Anyone else with an 8–9 month old on ~12h total sleep? What’s your schedule / wake windows?

I’m curious if anyone else has an 8–9 month old whose total daily sleep is around 12 hours.

My LO is 8.5 months old. We recently adjusted wake windows due to split nights, short naps, and early morning wakes. I calculated his sleep budget to be around 12 hours and moved from 3/3.5/4 to longer windows.

Today’s wake windows were: 3.75 / 4.25 / 4.25

(I was aiming for 3.75 / 4 / 4.25)

Naps today:

Nap 1: 1h12 (first time getting longer than 30 mins)

Nap 2: 44 mins

It took about 15 minutes to fall asleep for both naps, and around 25 minutes at bedtime.

He was quite fussy after the second nap, and I feel like he was tired throughout the entire last wake window.

For those of you with similar low sleep needs babies — do these wake windows seem too long? What worked for you on a 2-nap schedule?

Also, how many days do you usually try a set of wake windows before deciding whether they’re working or not?
