Wage slavery is one of the main reasons I will never have children.

It makes no sense to me to know how soul draining working a 9 to 5 is and yet still having children while knowing perfectly well that they will be stuck in the same boat that I'm in. It seems to me to be very inconsiderate

What's even worse is a percentage of your income gets taken by the government, and they use it to fund wars and bail out banks. These are the same banks the governments are in debt to, and they use tax money to pay off that debt, and at the same time, the price of everything is going up. They spend literally hundreds of billions of dollars on war using the peoples money, while the people themselves are struggling daily. At this point, I'm convinced that the system that runs the world was created to make humans suffer.

Seeing the pointlessness of life and yet still having to work is the worst.

The essence of enlightenment is about living in the here and now.

Believing in "spiritual" ideas doesn't really mean much, its just more food for the ego, just like time (past and future) are. Most people live in the past or the future and the present moment is usually ignored or is seen as just a means to an end, and yet when you're thinking about the past or the future, you can only do it in the present because its the only moment that actually exists.

The greatest obstacle to awakening and living in the present is the ego (the voice in your head), and once you believe you are that voice in your head, you get pulled into drama, fear, regret and so on. The key is to just observe that voice with detachment, like watching a movie you're not really interested in and the more you do this, the more space you start to see between thoughts until you can go for long stretches of "time" without any thoughts coming into your head. This is essentially what meditation is about.

"Not to be able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction, but we dont realise it because almost everybody is suffering from it, so it is considered normal. This incessant mental noise prevents you from finding that realm of inner stillness that is inseparable from being. It also creates a false mind made self that casts a shadow of fear and suffering." - Eckhart Tolle
