Issue with Engine Fixes has me stumped. Please help!

I have been playing with SE Engine Fixes for some time now. Main file installed in Mod Organizer 2, preloaded downloaded and the d3dx9_42.log file and placed with the Skyrimse.exe file.

I’m doing this all on a steam deck so it was a bit tricky, but I got it running.

But I got it all up and running and everything was working well.

I recently downloaded book covers of Skyrim, book covers - lost library, and bibliophile’s arcanaeum. I then made a bashed patch with Wrye Bash.

I then went to start up Skyrim, annnnd I got this message:

“ERROR: Engine Fixes did not pre-load and fixes are not active. Please verify the installation of d3dx9_42.dil from the Part 2 archive. This file must reside in the main game folder alongside SkyrimSE. exe, or be properly installed with your mod manager's root folder functionality.

Skyrim will now close.”

I have tried everything. I’ve removed and redownloaded and reinstalled Engine Fixes and the preloader’s d3dx9_42.log file.

I give up, can any body advise me in how to fix this?

Looking for purely flavour (Non-Combat & Non-utility) spell mods

I have apocalypse which I love!

But I would love some more non-combat spells in game. Like the ability to summon some firefly illusions which fly around for a bit, or to make sparks and fireworks by magic.

I just want to feel like I am learning some magic for more everyday role play, not primarily combat oriented magic.

The type of magic a scholar or arcane dilettante might learn.

I am looking for a mod that lets me make money without ever leaving the College of Winterhold

I am planning on using Live Another Life to start as a new student at the College of Winterhold.

I essentially want to spend the first 30 levels or so without really leaving the college (or at least the town). My mage is no adventurer nor would he want to risk his skin in the wilds. He is an academic and does not intend to leave the college's walls until he has sufficiently mastered the arcane arts that he can be assured of his own safety.

My problem is this: I want my character to study enchanting as one of his key skills. But there is no way to make money without leaving the college. Even enchanting would require that I leave to fill souls.

I was thinking I could use mods like "Scroll Writing in Skyrim" or "SpellScribe - Learn Spells by Transcribing" to be able to study spell tomes in the Arcanaeum and make scrolls from them to sell. but they require paper or other items that require dungeon diving or rare peddler purchases to sustain.

In short, I am looking for a mod that allows me to remain in the college and still make money.

Note: I am using Obscure's College of Winterhold. So I have lots of means to train and have fun in the college. But if anyone has any other slice-of-life style mods for the college let me know!

TLDR: The title. Looking for mods that let me have a means to make money to fund my magical studies without leaving the college.

Is there a way to permanently change an NPC's appearance (Onmund) in-game but while keeping the vanilla look and without using those horrible NPC appearance overhauls?

So, essentially, I just want to make Onmund look more like his voice. But all the mods that change appearance tend to go a very stylized doll/model direction. I just want a vanilla-style way to change his looks. I know I could go into the creation kit and tweak him, but the would be SO complicated. What I would love would be a Character creation-style menu with whihc I could tweak him. I was looking at Proteus... but that looks like a very big and finicky mod for such a minor change.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I would honestly be happy to just fix his underbite and give him better hair. I really like his character, but his face just... annoys me.

If I use the Marry Anybody mod to marry Valindor, is there a way to ensure that normal radiant quests do not target him (and thus avoid bugs created from this)?

See title. I am just concerned that the game doesn't let me marry NPC's like him that can be the subject of radiant quests for a reason.

... But he is the most/only good looking guy in Skyrim soooooo 😅

Could someone help me figure out what I have done wrong to cause the College of Winterhold to have floating bookshelves and invisible shelves?

Here are some screenshots of what I am talking about. I have circled the offending assets: https://imgur.com/gallery/modding-issue-floating-bookcases-invisible-shelves-EV19Mx5

Here is a pastebin link with my mod list and setup: https://pastebin.com/N0fibFiL

If needs be I can get rid of the bookshelves with the console, but I cannot make shelves from nothing.
