Civil Marriage
My boyfriend and I have been dating for the past 4.5 years. We’re both Punjabi and Sikh, and we’re having our civil marriage in Canada on May 16. We’ll be going to India in November for our traditional wedding.
I picked out a green gown to wear for our civil ceremony, and my boyfriend liked it and had no problem with it. But yesterday he told me that his parents said I shouldn’t wear green because “Muslim couples wear that colour for their wedding.”
My brain just stopped for a minute — I didn’t even know what to say. It’s 2026 and we’re still talking like this. I’m so confused and stressed about the whole situation. My boyfriend just said, “My parents said so,” and that was it. I told him I'm going to wear that colour, and you can't divide colours based on religion. I honestly don't know what else to say.
