What's the legal theory behind "contempt of court"?

For most laws, a legislative body determines what is and what is not legal. The executive branch enforces those laws. Then the judiciary determines guilt or innocence. Three branches, checks and balances, etc.

But, for contempt of court, the judge determines what is and what is not legal. The judge enforces that rule. And then the judge finds you guilty or innocent.

How does this comport with the American system of government?

Ran aground the other day and the trolling motor did this - am I screwed?

Fishing and got shallow. Motor hit muddy bottom and the little motor that raises and lowers it popped off.

I got the boat free and that motor section seemed to just pop back in place. Used the motor again the next day with the only problem being that it would get stuck almost fully deployed and need a nudge to get it completely vertical.

Any idea if anything might be damaged? Or is that part supposed to pop off as a safety mechanism?

Top Texas Longhorns' Recruit Makes Waves After Shattering Track Record

The Texas Longhorns have their eyes fully ahead to the 2026 season with a loaded roster, as they look to complete their quest of bringing a national championship back to Austin.

Beyond that though, head coach Steve Sarkisian is eagerly anticipating getting the No. 1, five-star receiver in the country, and Longhorns commit, Easton Royal, on campus.

While he has been in the news cycle due to other colleges attempting to sway his commitment, now the New Orleans native from Brother Martin High School is making headlines after he smashed a 47-year-old Louisiana High School track record in the 100-meter dash after running a 10.17 second finish.

Are these some kind of trolling motor(s)?

This is on a 90s or 00s Wellcraft Coastal 240 I saw on the side of the road. One prop per side, above the trim tabs. And they are slightly pointed inboard.

Never seen this before.
