Went 4-0 and took first at this weekends GD04 release event!

Good day all! Still floating on Cloud 9 as I surprised myself this weekend going undefeated with this chaos of a deck, and just wanted to share some thoughts for pilots who are attending a Sealed event too 😀 Apologies in advance for a long read!

This was my 3rd Sealed release event (missed GD03), and I'm sure a lot of players who play in these sort of events already know that due to the format of it, it's a good bet to just go with mostly smaller units and overwhelm your opponent before he takes you down. That and a whole lot of luck.

Back in GD01, I was really unlucky with my 6x packs where I only ever got rares and the 'best' card I got was Shamblo (was shiny and big). So I said, "Fuck it, let's make a weenie deck" as I was always a weenie player back in Magic (since beta, lol, I'm old 😆). I got top 2, went 4-1. My last opponent, pretty much thought of the same thing, only difference is he didn't put any thing past level 4. Noted. Did the same thing in GD02, but lady luck wasn't as good to me, finished 6th. Then came GD04, opened all 6x packs to make 40, and immediately set aside anything over level 4. Commander cards, Pilots, bases, anything that was lvl4 or below was in the 'good pile'. Then I looked closer and realized I had a bit more Trinity/CB so I rolled with that and to see if there was any synergy to it. Lastly, when i couldn't make 40 with the lvl4s, i chose to risk it and try to fit lvl 5s in. Well, it worked!

Some notes on how my matches went and which cards were the 'stars' of the deck and came in clutch.

1st game was against a well-versed Zaft player who loves doing technical stuff and his combos. We pretty much had the same board at one point, but my 2x Exias came out and did an excellent job on his 2 hp units, and eventually overwhelmed him with units.

2nd game, my opponent who also won his first game also did what I did, and literally made his deck to overwhelm but he went league militia way as that's what he got the most in his packs.

3rd game my opponent couldn't stabilize unfortunately and as he was sitting beside me during our 1st game, he saw what the Exias did, and as luck would have it, both came out again early.

Last game was the most difficult of all as lady luck got bored and left me for a bit to wander around I guess, as I started off good with a hipheavy and a wallaby, but was neck and neck for most of the game, and he was able to attack me with his Gundam DX which took 2 of my shields, and his Esperanza took my last shield which at this point i think lady luck returned to my side as i Top decked an Izuma Colony base. The last 2 turns for us went something like this: he had a Gundam DX and damaged Esperanza (1/3) and a Dopp on board, no bases, 1 shield. I only had a Throne Zwei with no link, no base, no shields left. I put down a Dynames, rest it and take his Dopp out. I put the Izuma Colony down and decide (after a loong think) I'll take his last shield. No burst, whew. Back to his turn, he puts down 2 more units, with no links, but there's still the DX and the Esperanza. So 2 swings, which pretty much wins him the game. My heart was racing, and I genuinely told him, that whatever happens, i sincerely thank him for an amazing game and for being an amazing player. He also decides (after a long time too) to go for it and swing DX into my 0/4 base and his plan was to use Esperanza to deal the final blow. But I had my single, Destined Battle in my hand, and used it on the Esperanza. My mind was blown, couldn't believe that plan worked! I know it's just a release event, but i was ecstatic!

Later on we discussed how it could have went, and he said if I he stuck with his gut, he should have went for the Zwei instead with his DX, and used his Esperanza on the Dynames as He. Had. BACKUP. That would definitely, totally won him that game when it went back to his turn. Lady luck was definitely on my side, but I still believe that a deck that overwhelms your opponents early and quickly is the way to go as trying to link with anything is hard on these kinds of format, but if you do pull those links and you can make them work, use them for sure :)

Thanks for bearing with me, and hope you found the read a bit entertaining at least.

Final thoughts:

- Hipheavy, I never started a game without it in my opening hand and it's really worked out for me. a 1-1 1/2 is awesome!

- Exias were a beast in all my games and they can absolutely wreck early game what with all the 2/2s in the game right now.

-Trinity/Throne Drei combo - it was great to get this going, and for those turns where you can't do anything, chip away at your opponents units and turn it into your favour! Good goes those token units or Virtues (and Exias) that a lot of people were running

- Destined Battle. OMG, I thought it was so-so, but having personally saved me and won me that match, This card is a game-changer. I would go out and say a must put in every green deck!

TLDR; Went with a deck this release event that pretty much is just filled with weenies (low kevels) and overwhelmed my opponents quickly, win the whole thing with the help of some standout cards (Great for this format) and possible real game-changer in Destined Battle!

Thanks again for reading and have a great release weekend all!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
