Last night my wife was eating her takeout from Chili’s and found a metal staple in her food. Not a hair, not something minor. A staple. Something that could have cut her mouth, damaged a tooth, or been swallowed without her noticing.
Here’s how each party responded:
DoorDash refunded the entire order immediately, no pushback, no questions. They had nothing to do with how the food was prepared and still made it right without hesitation. I know they easily refund on things- but in my opinion this was the restaurants fault- I was not seeking DoorDash credits but it was nice nonetheless.
Chili’s offered a $20 gift card. For context, that doesn’t even cover a Triple Dipper in my area. When we pushed back and pointed out that DoorDash had already covered the meal and we were looking for something that reflects the seriousness of a metal object in food, we were told that was all they could do considering DoorDash comped it.
Now, in what world would I be ordering with DoorDash credit separately at this location again- let alone go to said location to use a separate credit issued? Am I crazy or is that just insulting?
We’ve reported it to Chili’s corporate and the local Board of Health. Just wanna give kudos to DoorDash and shame chilis a lil bit. BUT also- just trying to gauge if I’m overreacting? I mean again- it’s metal. We don’t know if she ingested any other pieces. There could have easily been more than the one we found. She ate more than half of her food after all. I personally would have thought I would have been offered an entire meal comped but maybe that’s just too much these days. Order total was 54.12. Pictures attached.
Anyways, thanks DoorDash for once. Screw chilis.
Edit: I already see I’m being flamed in the comments for saying “is this normal” in the post title. Of course I know it’s not normal. I’m trying to gauge if this level of response from the restaurant is normal. I’m not looking for free margs for life lol I just feel like DoorDash went above and beyond and chilis offered the equivalent of a free chip and dip hahahaha.
Edit 2: immediate second edit, I get the value between both has the meal covered and more- people keep suggesting I’m looking for a huge settlement and that to me is taking what I’m saying way out of context. If all they give me is 20 then that’s all I get. I feel two separate refunds for a problem that is strictly at the restaurant doesn’t constitute the lack of response from the restaurant
