Is remote work a good first job as a new AI/ML grad?

I’m finishing my AI/ML engineering degree in a few months and currently wrapping up an internship in Brussels building a GenAI evaluation framework (RAG, LLM-as-judge, RAGAS, Langfuse).
I’m considering remote-first roles as my next step partly for flexibility, partly because visa sponsorship in Europe is genuinely hard to get as a Moroccan national.

Two questions for people who’ve been through this:

  1. Is remote work a good first “real” job, or do you lose too much from not being in an office early in your career?
  2. Has anyone navigated the “Moroccan passport = instant rejection” problem on remote applications? Some companies just won’t hire outside certain countries regardless of skills.

Genuinely curious what people’s experiences have been.

AI engineer trying to build passive income what actually worked for people with a technical background?

Hey everyone,
I’m an AI/ML engineer working a standard 9-to-5, and like a lot of people here I’ve been trying to build something on the side that generates income.
I’ve tested a few things over the past months. YouTube Shorts felt promising but the algorithm is brutal and consistency killed me. I tried dropshipping briefly and hated it – too much customer service, too little automation. Neither felt like a good fit for someone who thinks in systems and models rather than content schedules.
Right now I’m experimenting with Redbubble, using my AI skills to generate and iterate on designs faster than most people can. It’s early days but it feels more aligned with what I can actually do well.

What I’m genuinely curious about: has anyone here with a software or AI background found something that actually clicked with their skill set? Not just “build a SaaS” because that’s not passive, that’s a second job. I mean something where the technical edge gave you a real advantage and the income became more hands-off over time.

Happy to share more about what I’m building too if useful.

Any Dubai/UAE companies hiring junior AI engineers remotely from Morocco?

Hey everyone, so I’m a junior AI engineer based in Morocco, finishing up an internship in Brussels in August. I’ve been looking into opportunities in the UAE, but honestly relocating right now isn’t really on the table for me.

What I’m wondering is, are there companies in Dubai or the wider UAE that hire remotely, specifically for AI/ML roles? I have experience with RAG, LLMs, LangChain, and GenAI evaluation if that helps narrow it down.

Also curious, for those of you who work in tech there, how does the market actually work? Is it mostly through recruiters, referrals, LinkedIn? Any honest insight would be appreciated because I don’t really know where to start with the Gulf market.

Thanks in advance!

Building a GenAI evaluation framework a few honest observations

Currently interning as an AI/ML engineer in Brussels, working on a RAG evaluation framework using DeepEval. Still in progress but already learned a lot.
A few things that surprised me so far:
• LLM-as-judge is powerful but needs careful calibration against real human judgment
• Metrics can look good on paper while answers are still subtly wrong
• The hardest part isn’t technical it’s getting stakeholders to actually trust the eval results
Anyone else built evaluation pipelines with DeepEval or similar tools? Curious what approaches others have used.

Where do you guys find funny crochet stickers?

I’ve been wanting to decorate my project bag and laptop with some crochet-themed stickers but I can’t find anything that feels right most things I find are either too generic or not funny enough. Where do you shop for stickers? Would love recommendations 🧶

New to Brussels where do you buy yarn here

Hi everyone! I just moved to Brussels and I’m looking for a good yarn shop ideally somewhere with decent variety and not too expensive. I’ve been crocheting for a while but I’m still figuring out where to shop locally. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

I build RAG systems, AI chatbots, and LLM applications. Been on Fiverr for a while with 4 gigs, 2 completed orders, 5.0 rating. Last 30 days — maybe 14 impressions, zero clicks.

Is this niche too technical for Fiverr? Wrong platform? Wrong keywords?

Anyone who’s made Fiverr work for technical AI services what changed things for you?
