We’re planning a trip to the Retezat Mountains at the end of July and I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary from those who know these trails.

The Plan:

• Day 1: Leave the car at Cârnic and hike up to Lacul Bucura to set up camp.

• Day 2: Peak day (Peleaga, maybe Bucura I), then a second night at the lake.

• Day 3: Hike back down to Cârnic.

My main concern:

The first day involves over 1000 m of elevation gain. We’ll be carrying full gear. For a mixed group of hikers(age, gender, fitness level, experience) pushing all the way to Lacul Bucura is it manageable if we start early? Or is it a very hard trail and camp on a lower level?

Any other advices are welcome as well.
