Solar/battery gate?
If you have a solar/battery powered gate, think about protecting the electronics/batteries from the desert heat. A few days ago when ambient temps were 77.4 degrees I took the unprotected picture this was after a second set of replacement AGM internal batteries over 5 years with the enclosure reading 122 degrees. Over the last 2 days out of carefully assembled plywood offcuts from other projects I built a shade box that's offset from the box by at least an inch all the way around. Today registered the exterior of the new shade box at 98 degrees on a day where ambient temperatures at the moment were 85.5, and the black plastic weather proof gate box was down to 90 degrees. I got a 32 degree decrease on the box itself on a day where ambient temps were 8 degrees warmer.
This whole deal was because the AGM battery in my car survived 7 years, but these AGM batteries in this gate box only lasted 2.5 years, twice. I obviously don't have longevity results yet, but for basically the price of "free" I hope to get better durability out of these batteries that we basically don't ever power cycle, so they were obviously heat cycling. If you have an option to get your box out of the sun consider the effort.
