Mitsurugi effect timing
So I was dueling yesterday and a heated discussion happened about whether or not an effect goes through. The situation was as follows
Opponent’s Ame no murakumo was special summoned, and when special summoned it wipes the board of face up monsters.
I chain with mitsurugi prayers and on activation I tribute my murakumo to use both of mitsurugi prayers’ effects add a mitsu monster and take 800 damage and special summon a mitsu monster from hand or grave. I add a card and special summon mitsurugi no mikoto, kusanagi on the field. Nothing else gets chained after that. So prayers is resolved kusanagi gets on field but then he gets destroyed due to murakumo’s effect.
Now after everything was resolved I then use kusanagi’s effect since he was special summoned I get to target and add a mitsu card from grave or banishment to my hand, but my opponent says no that that doesn’t go through since he got destroyed and sent to grave so his effect misses timing. Is that right? His effect says “if this card is normal, special summoned or if this card was tributed: you can target 1 mitsurugi card in your grave or banishment except mitsurugi no kusanagi; add it to your hand” im pretty sure the effect still resolves since he did hit the board first before being destroyed and sent to grave.
I just want to know if I was right or not since it keeps weighing on my mind.
