I would like to present my plan for fixing Wilfried, or at least salvaging what's left before he graduates from the Royal Academy. Please note that this is intended towards increasing his chances of success as future Giebe Gerlach, not salvaging his status as an ADC. That is a lost cause already.
I was inspired during my reread of P4V4, specifically the Haldenzel visit. It occured to me that Wilfried is lacking any concrete experience in running a Giebe, even if he does have the mana and basic education prerequisites. He lacks any close family who can give him specific advice, and he doesn't exactly have a wealth of retainers who either 1) will follow him there to assist, or 2) have any concrete experience themselves. Factor in the extreme casualties that Gerlach took, and Wilfried is having to start from scratch with few resources to guide him at the start. So....how can we solve this within the bounds of the world in AOB?
My solution: a summer internship! No seriously, an actual internship. Wilfried has one summer left before his final year at the Academy. In my opinion, he should spend barely any of it at the Archducal castle. Instead, he needs to "intern" under a Giebe to learn the ins and outs of the position. His two best options are either Giebe Haldenzel or Giebe Kirnberger, perhaps both. I would suggest Giebe Illgner, but as a mednoble the poor dude is too low in status to provide critique for Wilfried's inevitable mistakes. Both of the two best options are archnobles of significant status, and both of them aren't inherently hostile to Wilfried.
This internship could solve both Wilfried's lack of experience and his lack of support staff. The experience part is obvious, but it also gives either (or both) Giebes the opportunity to "gift" Wilfried with a couple scholars or attendants who could assist his efforts. This gives them an opportunity to influence a new Giebe while propping up Wilfried. Also, said individuals would be fast-tracked to career advancement, going from minor figures within their home province to being Wilfried's primary support, so win win.
This affair is also profitable to said Giebes in another fashion. Assuming Sylvester is the one who helps arrange this (Wilfried being indecisive), he now owes either or both Giebes a favor for assisting his son. This makes the potential frustration of running herd on Wilfried politically worthwhile.
