Hi there! I’m an incoming freshman at W&M and am trying to get an idea of what my schedule might look like next year. For context, I’m an oos student and cost is a factor for me

I want to double major in gov + data science and see that the intro data science course, DATA 101, can be replaced with CS 141, which I would receive credit for with my AP CSA score (very convoluted, I know). This would allow me to go straight into DATA 201 and save some money. However, this is a Java class, and I know data science is conducted primarily in python, so that’s why I’m a bit worried. DATA 101 would also have a stats emphasis that I’d be kinda missing w/o it. I want to be as economical as possible, but don’t want to miss any core learning yk?

For any current data science students, would you recommend I take DATA 101 or skip it with my cs credit and move straight into DATA 201? And for anyone who skipped the python intro course with csa credit, what’s the jump like from Java to python?

Any help with these questions would be much appreciated! I just wasn’t sure where to go to ask 😅
