Spent a week with the Hummer EV - my thoughts

Just finished a week with a Hummer EV rental. Currently own a Gen 1 R1T and Gen 2 R1S. Have long been curious about the Hummer and had chose to rent one this past week in SoCal. Overall, didn’t hate it but didn’t love it. Thought maybe the Hummer EV truck would have been a fun Swiss Army knife in lieu of the R1T given you could pop the top off. But this week confirmed, for me, that I prefer the Rivian. It would make a great beach or lake vehicle but not a daily.

The Good:

- Bose sound system was very strong

- frunk is spacious

- 4 wheel steering is awesome (didn’t use crab walk)

- back window comes down, top comes off

The OK:

- super cruise is just behind Gen2 hands free. Not bad but too aggressive and gets itself into bad spots. You have to intervene too much.

- it’s smooth at speed but that’s deceptive if you hit a big bump or turn hard. Feels like an old Cadillac

- looks both good and dopey at the same time. At times I felt foolish driving it

- interior was ok but busy. Lots of buttons and UI was convoluted

- good pick up for a huge car, but it was reminiscent of opening the throttle on a boat. The front raised up comically high

The Bad:

- it’s annoying huge. Bad sight lines

- windshield is tiny

- hard to see out of up front, sides, and back

- sensors, sensors, sensors. It was constantly chirping and beeping.

- lost identity. Felt like the product didn’t know if it was an eV or an ice vehicle.

- entry/exit suspension had a mind of its own. Everyone had to crawl out of it. Was annoying to watch the car lower as we walked away after parking
