Wrongly added as co-applicant in loan, credit score affected – what should I do?

Hi everyone, need advice on a loan dispute in India.

Background:

Loan taken in Aug 2022 by my brother

I was added as co-applicant without my consent or signature

I never applied, signed, or provided KYC

I was never contacted (no call/SMS/email) for 3 years

Issue:

Found this loan in Oct 2025 in my credit report

It was already showing default/DPD

My credit score dropped significantly (some bureaus still low ~550)

What I did:

Raised dispute with Bajaj Finance Ltd → no proper response

Filed complaint with RBI Ombudsman

They offered “suppression” (temporary) → I did NOT accept

Sent legal notice → no reply

Filed second RBI complaint

Recently they said “delinked”, but no written confirmation

Latest issue:

Even after RBI complaint, they again reported default recently

No clarity if removal is permanent or temporary

No NOC given

Compensation:

They offered ₹12K → I rejected

I’m planning to claim around ₹2L (mental harassment + financial impact + legal cost)

❓ Questions

Should I settle or go to consumer court?

Is ₹2L a realistic claim in such cases?

Has anyone faced similar issue with wrong co-applicant / KYC failure?

Is FIR actually required in such cases or is lender responsible?

🧠 Extra Info

I already have RBI complaint + legal notice

I have proof of signature mismatch and no consent

Credit report still inconsistent across bureaus

Any advice or similar experience would really help 🙏

Wrongly added as co-applicant in loan, credit score affected – what should I do?

Hi everyone, need some advice.

In 2022, a two-wheeler loan was taken by my brother, but somehow my name was added as co-applicant without my knowledge or consent. I never signed anything or gave documents.

I didn’t even know about this until 2025 when I saw it in my credit report, and it was already showing default.

Since then:

I raised complaint with lender

Filed complaint with RBI

Sent legal notice

They first offered “suppression” (temporary fix), which I didn’t accept. Now they say it is “delinked” but haven’t given any proper written confirmation.

Also, even recently, it was again reported as default which is really frustrating.

My CIBIL score is fine now, but other bureaus are still low (~550), so issue is not fully resolved.

They are offering small compensation (~12k), but I’m not sure if I should accept or go to consumer court.

Questions:

Should I settle or go legal?

What kind of compensation is realistic?

Any advice would help 🙏
