So I need to break my lease 3 weeks into a 12 month lease.
It’s a combination of losing my job and not being able to afford it anymore, my sister buying an investment property that they want to put me in and bad vibes from my landlord ( they want me to pay the owners water in advance it feels shifty).
I have spoken to the tenants union and I am aware it’s going to cost me money to break it, I am just going to put it down to a life lesson about private rentals.
My question is what do I do if the owner won’t respond to communication and I can’t give the keys back?
At this point I am thinking I might have to just give them to the police to hold and let her collect them from there.
Advice or suggestions would be welcome

Edit: sorry I forgot to mention it’s a private rental with an official lease
Update: they got in contact with after a second email and a txt was sent. I am meeting them at the property at midday tomorrow. They also want me to pay rent until they find a new tenant. That obviously isn’t going to happen.
