Opinions of the LC Carbine

I’ve been debating on a 5.7x28 for some time and I have the opportunity to get an LC Carbine for approximately $525

I was considering the LC Charger but it’s substantially more expensive

I’ve also been considering getting a Ruger 5.7 if I would get either the Carbine or Charger…back up gun of sorts but also just range fun

Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations/experience with the Carbine (good or bad)? Thanks

Henry H9 Protector Questions

I’m liking some of the specs of the newer H9 Protectors…specifically the weight…under 7lbs with wood furniture.

Has Henry addressed or fixed the issue they were having with the 360 Buckhammers? I seem to remember some people saying they were having accuracy issues with some of the H9 Classics…potentially barrel issues, I don’t recall exactly.

I’ve been thinking about getting a shorter barreled, light(ish) weight lever for hunting a mountainous area of western/central Pennsylvania…basically a somewhat long hike up a steep mountain side and it levels out into a ridgeback that runs for miles. The terrain goes up and down, left and right so average shots in that area are under 100 for sure (there’s probably some open woods shots that could be more but I’d be worried about all of the branches and stuff I can’t see with my eyes).

The other side of this is a lightweight bolt action but I prefer a lever. I’m about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh so I was thinking about a straight wall over something like a 30-30 because I believe there are some areas out there that you can only use straightwall cartridges…then obviously Ohio isn’t all that far away either, although I might not ever hunt either area…I haven’t heard anything bad about the Buckhammer cartridge

Let me know if I’m on the right track or if I should be looking elsewhere, thanks!

I was just wondering if anyone has had a chance to mess with any of the new 10/22’s? They will be a 32xxx model number in case anyone is wondering

We’ve had a few of them come in at the gun shop where I work part time…we currently have of the scoped models and it’s pretty nice (comes with a decent ruger branded hard case too). It has a cheap(ish) Viridian scope mounted to it…which I’m not sure what’s up with all of these big name companies working with Viridian lately…but is what it is I guess. The reticle isn’t great and I’m pretty sure it’s a 100 yard fixed parallax, so again not sure why Ruger chose this, but anyway…

A couple of notable upgrades/features over the older models…BX trigger standard on all models, match bolt release (just pull back, no more messing with the latch to release) and a more ergonomic stock with a couple of MLOK slots on the bottom of the forend. They do have a Magpul X22 stock that’s even a little nicer, but this new factory stock is a big improvement over the outgoing plastic stock models. Some have threaded barrels, some don’t, so be careful if you’re looking for one or the other

Hello all…I was initially looking at some of the newer Ruger made Marlin 1894’s but personally (I tend to prefer bolt actions and because of the overall weight) I’ve switched my thinking to the 77/44. I can get either of the ones pictured but I’m not very knowledgeable about these 77/44’s.

Are there any problems or issues that I need to be aware of with this model? It’s a rotary mag, which works great on the 10/22 but I’ve had older Ruger Americans where they don’t feed well from their rotary mag…although the 77/44 mag seems to be of better construction.

I also don’t really understand their rings…are they two different sizes/heights? I’d be looking at something low power…possibly a Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4x with the MOA ring reticle. I have read some things about bolt clearance being an issue with some scopes…so what height or height combo would I need? I’ve also seen blued and matte blued rings on their site…or should I avoid the Ruger brand rings in favor of another brand, like Leupold or Warne?

Thanks for the help!

Hello everyone…I’ve been looking at some different lever guns in both 357 Mag and 44 Mag and have the opportunity to buy one of the three that I posted pictures of.

I’ll use this for plinking at the range, woods walks and possibly deer hunting in Pennsylvania.  I’m leaning more towards 44 Mag but it’s also nice to have the companion gun 357 Mag and a revolver chambered in the same, so I’m not 100% on which chambering yet.

What I’m trying to decide and need your help is on brand.  I know everyone is immediately going to say the Marlin 1894 over Heritage 92 (formerly branded as a Rossi R92), but hear me out…

For this particular Heritage 92 (18” barrel, polished stainless & wood stock), I can get it new for $525 (first picture). These aren’t made in Brazil like the Rossi R92’s were, they’re made in Bainbridge, GA.

The second picture is the Marlin 1894 Guide Gun (20” barrel, black & laminate stock) and it would be $956 new.

Third picture is the Marlin 1894 Trapper (currently only available in 44 Mag from the source where I can buy it…16” barrel, stainless, laminate stock and skinner sights already installed) and would be $1125 new.

My question is this…are the Marlin guns so much better that they’re worth roughly twice as much as the Heritage? As in, I know they’re nicer…but are they THAT much nicer?

I’d likely replace the buckhorn sights on the Heritage or Marlin Guide Gun with Skinners as well, so the Trapper already being done is nice…but that’s also not that hard of a job on the other two. I guess where I’m torn is, if I was going to spend $950-1125 on a new Marlin I might be tempted to get a 30-30 or 45-70 instead (although they’re currently not available from my source), over a 357/44 Mag, but with the 92 I can only get pistol calibers, otherwise I’d have to buy a Rossi R95, which I’m not super interested in at the moment. Any opinions are welcome but I’d love to hear from someone that has or has had both brands.
