Are DT 990 Pros supposed to sound this "lifeless"? Need some advice.
Hi everyone,
I have a bit of a "is it just me?" question. I recently picked up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros along with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (4th Gen).
I’ve been testing them out, and I’m honestly not sure if I’m missing something, but everything sounds incredibly... neutral. It’s not just the tracks I’m producing in FL Studio; even professionally mixed songs on YouTube, SoundCloud, and Spotify feel kind of "flat" or even "lifeless."
I did some research beforehand and I know these are "reference" headphones meant for mixing and mastering, but is it normal for them to sound this clinical? Even hits mixed by top-tier pros don't have that "punch" I'm used to.
For context, these are my first pair of professional studio headphones. Up until now, I’ve been using HyperX gaming headsets for everything.
Has anyone else had this experience when making the switch? Is it just a matter of my ears getting used to a non-boosted sound, or could I be doing something wrong with my setup?
Thanks in advance for the help!
