Hi, I just got accepted to W&M as a sophomore transfer for fall 2026! I'm struggling to make a decision about it.

I'm finishing first year at NYU, so I'm used to the city life and excitement of it but I felt it was hard to find a community that was centered around the school, and students were generally cold and very individual. I'm looking to go somewhere that has good school pride and where the people are friendly, kind, social. I'm definitely interested in joining a sorority and club tennis as well. I also really think I would enjoy the campus life at W&M, it is so beautiful there and I think one of the reasons I struggled at NYU was because there was no central place to be with just other students.

I think my hesitation to committing is worry that I will be bored coming to live in Williamsburg, and that academically I will not have as much opportunity to explore subfields in my major (Psychology). Additionally, that students will already have cemented friend groups and I will feel disconnected and behind from them.

W&M is less widely known than NYU as well, although I know it is prestigious too. However, I did get good financial aid for W&M so my cost per year would be 50k less than what I pay now for NYU which is crazy.

Any advice about student life at W&M/transferring would be appreciated!
