Opening moves of the Third Faction War

See my last post for more of this game's crazy history. This one comes with screenshots!

This is a link to higher resolution images so you can actually read the maps!

Hell has been let loose in this game and I'm obsessed with it. It's the war to end all wars.

The map was designed for huge European battles, and it is delivering. The scenario is also my own make and it started in 1776 where America is only a handful of independent colonies.

I decided to leave vassals on for this one, which makes a huge difference. The balance of power shifts much more delicately and giant faction wars are inevitable.

The AI Germany managed to pull off a blitzkrieg and I think that in itself is impressive.

That one German stack thats sitting in Orleans if youre curious: 22 armor 18 mech infantry 4 mobile SAM 10 SAM infantry 1 gunship

The next map will be what this world looks like by 2042.

This madness is the insane result of a Civ4 scenario I made that starts in 1776 and plays out on my distorted earth map. Making a kind of axis v allies situation was somewhat intentional, even if just to make the late game infinitely more interesting.

The game provides a glimpse into an alternate history where the nations of Earth didn't learn the lessons of the World Wars of our timeline. They still practice the rigid tripwire alliances and victor-spoils mentality of the pre-WWI geopolitical landscape, and they have no qualms about using the nuke on enemy soldiers or civilians.

It was fun and challenging for me to learn how to use GIMP to make maps like these. You can see some interesting similarities and contrasts to our own history. And you can well imagine my thoughts, playing as America, when Germany invades France and starts a world war in the process. Seeing Europe gradually changing into one color activated my D-Day senses as every good American has built in from birth.

I also provided some historical context to serve as lore. Another map detailing what this world looks like in the year 2034 is in the works, so eventually you can see this war's progression (hint: its not going well for France.) The current year in my game is 2042 and it has only gotten crazier as the war goes on.

Playing as America in this game, I feel like intervention is necessary here. On this map, letting Germany swallow France would be letting them get away with a huge power play. Like George Carlin said, "Can you think of the last white people we bombed? The Germans! And only because they wanted to rule the world and cut in on our action!"
