is getting a master's worth it?

hey guys, so if i'm coming from a t40-t50 that not a target at all, would getting a mfe from a top program (baruch, cmu, princeton, columbia, berkeley, etc.) be helpful or is it just a waste of time/money and i should just pivot to another field?

is going to a underfunded school a hook?

hi guys so if my school is considered "fringe rural" and underfunded if that a hook for applications? we have limited opportunities as well especially for stem since the only school ecs we have are sports, theatre, quiz bowl, and one nhs.

also my school is not competitive, our class size average is only like 70 and i don't think we've sent anyone to a t20 or hypsm ever or in at least the 10-20+ years, oh and our test score averages are low. though there's like two school like 20 minutes from us that sends a kid or two a t20 every year so idk if that would affect me

also i am a fgli and the one of two full asians at my school (others are wasian). how much would this be a hook at schools like cmu, mit, uchicago, cornell, columbia, or top schools considering i have good stats and took advantage of what i had?

hi guys so i am currently a sophomore and was wondering is junior year too late to start extracurriculars or awards that are impactful? due to family responsibilities and transportation/time issues i haven’t been able to do much activities so would doing stuff junior year seem like a red flag to admissions officers? i have good grades but none of my ecs are impactful/good

also my school is rural and underfunded so there’s nothing so if anyone has math, finance, or cs ecs suggestions i can do virtually/by myself that would be appreciated. thanks!

hey guys, i'm currently a high schooler looking at school options and i had a few questions about the math department at cmu

  1. is the quant placement well for math majors? i've seen a lot of cs majors go into quant from cmu but not really math ones. (i would want to be a trader or a dev)

  2. would declaring a cs minor with a math major be useful? how competitive or hard would it be to do that?

  3. how is the computational finance major? is it competent or better than an applied math major? i would like my options to be versatile as possible if quant doesn't work out but i still want to go into a high finance field.

anyone who could provide advice would be appreciated, thanks!

hi guys, like the title says will family responsibilities affect me for top schools negatively? i've worked at my parent's restaurant my whole life so it's prevented me from doing a lot of school related activities until right now (i'm a sophomore) due to time issues and transportation.

also my parents are kind of overprotective so they don't want me attending residential programs so i'm stuck doing community or online activities. would the lack of high impact ecs/awards affect me negatively? i do plan on talking about it in my essay or i'll talk about being the only asian female at my school and my experience with those things

for more context, i am fgli asian that goes to a very small non-competitive rural public school. i was hoping to go into math/stats

Hey guys, I am currently a sophomore in high school and was wondering if skipping Pre-Calculus and going straight to Calculus AB would be beneficial.

For context, the highest level of Math my school offers for honor students is Calculus AB so I would be skipping my junior year of Pre-Calculus and going straight to Calculus AB since that’s what my teacher recommended for me. I would just take Calculus 2 or a college level math my senior year. I have been doing well in Algebra 2 currently and I do plan on learning Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry during the summer or at least certain topics. I also do plan on going into a Math heavy field.
