Y’all are hating on Rooster, meanwhile I’m loving it 🤷‍♂️

From the moment the Blu-Ray’s were announced and Logic/Bob said he’d release 5 albums to go along with them, I immediately looked at these 5 albums as Logic’s version of Madlib’s “The Brick”.

“The Brick”/“Medicine Show” series was a plethora of projects full of sounds and genres Madlib played with and released in the early 2010s and it’s fiiiiiiiiiiiire 🔥🔥🔥 If you’ve never checked it out, I highly highly recommend you do so. 13 projects: All the Odd projects are original Madlib works while the Even projects are Madlib mixtapes/DJ mixes (#2 Flight to Brazil is absolutely amazing, and you know damn well Madlib didn’t clear any samples for it lol. Go look at the vinyl version of it and read the back. The manufacturer of that record called Madlib out for that while still praising how exceptional the music was).

My expectations with these 5 Logic albums released with the purchase of the Blu-Ray (and of course y’all are already sharing files so it’s not like if you didn’t buy a Blu-Ray you can’t just go and download the files somewhere for free) were to experience Logic experimenting with sounds. AND IN MY OPINION, I’M LOVING WHAT I’M HEARING!! This is coming from a huge Logic fan and supporter. I’ve been rocking with dude since he was on Dizzy Wright’s “Untouchable”, and when he was on Sway way back in the day, and I couldn’t wait for “Under Pressure” to release.

Can an artist experiment?? As soon as Logic releases anything other than an Ultra 85 / No Pressure type album, it’s “ohhhh he fell off. I knew when he dropped Ultra 85 that would be it for him”… bruh, are we not hearing the same thing on Rooster 😭? I completely understand the complaint that some throwaways have been put on the project and some verses have been reused. I love “Inglorious Basterd” and I honestly wasn’t too happy to hear the verse of “Still Pushin” on “Soulfood III”, but what I do like is that verse now sits in its own production. And honestly, the production of each track and the sequencing from track to track flows so well in my opinion on Rooster. The lyrics, Logic’s flows, the beats, the soundscaping and world building… isn’t this what we like about Logic? The stories he paints, the way he rhymes, etc… imagine if Rooster would’ve been like BT3. Y’all are treating it like it’s BT3 and I don’t think it should be at all. Give this project some flowers.

Y’all hated on “Information Overload” when it released, said it was a blatant Tame Impala rip-off. Sure I get it, but still, the music sounded good 🤌🤌🤌 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to that project. The intro is fire with that sample (go listen to the song “Still Praying” by Westside Gunn. I know that’s not the original sample, I’m just saying I love how Gunn and Logic used the same sample and it fits so well on each respective project). The “Linger” sample on the outro of “Information Overload” is peak man. Drive late at night with the windows down bumping that track and tell me life isn’t peak.

The Audio Cinematic moments on Rooster are awesome too!! I feel as if Bob’s vision of creating something similar to Orson Welles’s “The War of the Worlds” where you put headphones on and you’re fully immersed in the world was actualized very well. Again, give this project some flowers and watch, some of y’all’s opinions are gonna change in the coming weeks.

I’m enjoying this experimental Logic project run and I’m excited for what’s to come!!
