Best resources for learning fundamental concepts and history?

I’m interested in learning more about the historical development and fundamental concepts of ML/DL/LLMs but I’m finding that everything I come across is either too dumbed down or too advanced (by advanced I mean skipping right to the current edge of development). I am not a computer scientist or developer but I got my first computer in the mid 80s, have always dabbled in hobby coding, did well in stats ii and calc iii and have held a variety of STEM jobs that require mathematical understanding, so I may not be passing assessments on proofs or anything but I feel like I can read and understand mathematical and logical principles fairly well. I’m
Fascinated by learning more about how we got from primitive text prediction to where we are today for both intellectual and practical purposes. Can anyone recommend any , either print or online, that would help me gain knowledge in this area?

Are there ANY junk wax era cards that are worth anything raw?

I started going through my old collection, mostly 1986-1992, and although I find some cards that say their avg is $1-$2 I know that that’s their average retail price, and I’m not interested in finding one-off customers for cards like that.

My understanding from research is that even the most desirable cards of that era are not actually rare at all, which is why PSA10s hold all the value - there may be 200,000 of those Griffey jr rookies, but only a few thousand 10s, especially with the high printing / cutting tolerances of the era.

I’ve tried to do this research myself and can’t seem to find a source besides looking each card up individually, and so far even some of the cards that were coveted and valuable at the time are essentially worthless now, at least in terms of monetary value.

Anyway, my kids friends are about the age I was when I was collecting these and they are showing interest in my old cards. I’m going through them just to pull a very small personal collection of cards that are really cool or nostalgic for me to keep for now (and maybe pass down slowly), but I’m curious if anyone knows any published lists of cards that are actually worth like $5+ raw that I can keep my eyes peeled for just so that I can sleeve them and either convey to the kids that these ones are more special and should be taken care of/traded for other more special cards, or maybe trade them up for something that we would enjoy more.

I could be wrong but I’d imagine showing up at the card shop with a stack of cards that list as .50-$2 each in various conditions would just be offered bulk prices.

Thanks for the help!
