New Sidekick with PO33

This thing is pretty fun so far, even just using it for FX.

I don't normally sample other people but thought I'd have some fun with Simon Says and the Amen Break.

Playing with the new Sidekick

Picked this up this morning and finally got to hook it up to a couple of devices (EP1320 and a Woovebox) and a speaker.

Overall I'm pretty pleased, this has a lot of potential. I do agree with some saying that a crossfader should have been on here - I'm sure it couldn't have cost that much more to add one? I can only think it may have been somehow incompatible with the FX being split between channels?

I'm looking forward to using its audio interface features and other advanced features. The time-based FX seem to pick up bpm well, even when things are chaotic. I think this is going to integrate into the setup quite nicely.

Is it worth £180? In the eye of the beholder as always. IMO just as an FX unit it probably punches above or about its weight. Mixer and audio interface as well? That tips it probably. Maybe my brain is just twisted from buying guitar pedals.

Please forgive me for audio/video quality, BTW, I'm neither a DJ or a professional video maker so this is a bit shoddy, but hopefully should serve to show roughly what this can do in amateur hands.

I'm re-reading Look to Windward and that wanker Ziller is, as usual, acerbic to the point of absolute obnoxiousness. I think I could bear about three whole minutes of his company before tipping my drink over his head. Every time I read LtW I want to reach through the page and slap him.

Kabe would be pleasant but dull.

Zakalwe would be a laugh, but I suspect would get maudlin and a bit PTSD'y after 4 or 5 pints.

Choubris Holse would be my man, I think. Likes a good drink and the occasional flutter. Salt of the earth, but can philosophise with the best of them. Chatty, but not wittering. If it kicks off he can handle himself, and will probably have my back if I've been standing my round.

After building the first board (swipe to see) I had a few pedals left over, enough to tempt me into building a 2nd board. Picked up the LS-2 and the mini-universe, and a friend gave me the expression pedal. I welded the board itself from scrap metal we had at work.

Haven't yet had a chance to play on it, I'm probably going to put the compressor in front of the reverb before I do. Current order is zoom G1xfour > M-vave mini-universe > blaxx OD > Landlord comp > Mooer EQ > Boss LS-2.

The exp pedal is mainly for controlling the Ravish Sitar on Board A. The LS-2 can switch or mix signals from boards A and B, and act as a killswitch, and is also powering the board via a daisy chain.

These boards are used as much for synths and drum machines as guitar, so there is some compromise for that.

There's only one loose pedal now, a Valeton GP-5, but I've decided to keep that as a floating mini-fx unit for synths, or for when I want a quick play on guitar without getting the amp and pedalboards out. I've got enough multi-fx going on on both boards.

Happy to take any advice on pedal order if you think I have it arse about face.
