Map #7 The Great Dams

Hand-drawn map of one region in my world.

Thousands of years ago the dams were built as a defense from the toxic smoke rising from the waters. The technology long since forgotten, what remains is a shatterd people deep in superstition with no knowledge what lies on the outside.

Happy to answer any lore question to the best of my ability even though the world is in its infancy.

Free use for any Dungeon Master!

Any critique of drawing or lore is much appreciated.

EDIT: Thank you all for the amazing reception to the map below ive added a link to a pastebin with some of the collected information about the great dams i have so far.

Hello everyone! Working on my 7th map and it has a interesting (at least i think so) concept.

The ocean surface has a toxic layer, (think of oil in water it stays on top) this layer releases a toxic gas. The inhabitants built giant dams down to the bottom of the oceans long ago. The tech or scifi part of the world is long since forgotten and now it is in a more medieval setting.

Im right now working on detailing the landmasses at the bottom of my dams.

After adding trees, mountains, rivers and the rest you can see on the map i feel like i want something more. I regret going with symbols for my towns instead of drawing something because i feel locked into that now.

What can i add as points of interest or just natural landmarks?

Colored in The island of Mebury a smaller map than i have done before and it felt good.

A5 paper but i think i got some decent details.
Any advice or critique?

I decided to try out a smaller paper and a smaller region of a world.

This is the island of Mebury, hope you like it!

This world has permanent day in the west and permanent night in the east.

Not very happy with it. It got very clutterd. And many of the things look bad like volcanos smoke and many of the coloring choices.

Still long to go and it might come together. We will see.

Give me some guesses about why this world is shaped the way it is :D

The only thing filled in in black is water

Hello everyone! Things are moving in the right direction.
I have made one error however.
while making this map i decided that the southern isles and the big landmass are two different countries.
Once ive drawn everything i now find it hard o place the names for the two countries and the ice sheet in the north.

The island in the south is easy enough with the name just in the ocean south of it but the big landmass is harder.
would it work to have a banner in the top left of the map with the name and it being implied that that is the name of the big landmass?

any tips there and any critique of my first try at coloring would be greatly appreciated!

A world comming out on an ice age where the sheet is finally beginning to thaw.
Some of the norhtern settlements on cliffs and hills have survived the ice but have been secluded from the rest of the world drasticlly affecting their culture. other settlements in the north are brand new towns founded by explorers claiming this old land

Does this sound like a interesting start to a Dnd campaign or story?

let me know what you think and what i can improve on the map.

Im new to this hobby but dont be kind i want to know the faults.

Thank you

My 4th map as a map maker.

Hobbys got me more than hooked.

The idea of this map is a ice age slowly thawing away. The lands up north are newly settled except for some of the towns on hilly areas that were locked away from the rest of the country for a long time.

Can you tell what everything is and should o add something?

Do you think i should color it in?

Compass and name are in the works.
