My boy just constantly whines, whinges, cries ALL DAY LONG. I don’t believe he’s in any pain or discomfort, and he wasn’t like this as a newborn. It began at around 4 months. It is so so difficult, overwhelming, and frustrating.

His first wake window is normally okay and the first ten minutes or so after a nap he’s always happy and smiley but after that it’s game over.

Put him on his play mat? I’ve got a minute or so until he starts. Give him a different toy? Maybe 30 seconds. Sit him in his high chair? Another minute of peace and he starts again. I’m not proud but a couple of times a day I‘ve resorted to sticking Miss Rachel on for a small break and even with that I’d say he gives us a maximum of 8 minutes’ silence before he starts up again.

When I actively sit and play with him, I’m able to hold off the crying for like 15-20 minutes only if I constantly am moving him around, jiggling him, changing position, changing toys, doing silly things to make him smile and laugh. The SECOND I stop he starts the whining and crying again.

I can’t get anything done. My head is full of the crying all day 😭

The only thing that works is taking him out for walks where he seems content.

Otherwise, he’s a good eater, good sleeper, he giggles when tickled or we’re doing funny voices etc… But then yeah… Straight back to crying.

He’s not a velcro baby, either. He’s never been very cuddly and he doesn’t want me to pick him up, so it’s not that. 😅

Is anyone else going through anything similar at all?

Sorry for this rant. He’s just gone to bed and I’m gearing myself up for more of the same tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.

My husband and I moved into a flat in July 2025 - London. The landlord asked for 5 months’ rent upfront which we agreed to as we were in a hurry with a baby on the way. Then, she asked us to start monthly rent payments immediately despite the 5 months already paid. So, begrudgingly, the first 7 months of the year we paid the rent monthly and then during the remaining 5 months (still now) we haven’t been paying anything as the upfront money we paid at the start is being used to cover rent. 

We assumed that once the year was up we’d just continue paying rent monthly, like typical tenants. A few weeks ago, though, the landlord messaged and asked if we could have a chat about “future rent payments and what’s next” but this chat never happened. Now that the Renters’ Rights Act is in place, am I correct to assume that we can’t be asked for more rent upfront? Or does this only apply to new tenancies? Or is she able to ask us but we can say no with no consequence?
