More of the old Legends cards from my 6 color reality.

Finishing out some of the cycles present in Legends, remember when purple had counterspells? Remember that time that WotC panicked about the D.A.R.E. program and banned Psychadelic Trip in all formats? Also remember when Glorpic Nebula single handedly ruined the Flying Saucer deck that was dominating early Magic? Good times, good times.

The Forgotten Legends of Legends™

Remember [[Angus Mackenzie]] and [[Axelrod Gunnarson]]? What about Ilvo Sulmu? Here are some of the forgotten purple legends of Magics fourth expansion, Legends™.

Random Facts & Trivia

  • Umbris and Skrimbo Jimbo were the largest vanilla creatures until the printing of [[Enormous Baloth]] in Legions™.
  • Graavo Shoczaill was printed with the typo "Ramage: 2" as opposed to "Rampage: 2", inspiring the card Rammage in Unglued™.
  • Doppel had the greatest difference in rules text to oracle text so far, the novella present on the Legends™ printing of the card was later reduced to "You may have Doppel as a copy of target artifact or creature, except it is blue and purple. Otherwise, Doppel enters as a 1/1."
  • The story of Halfdane and Squmbi was further elaborated on in the events of Shapeshifter's Paradise by Scott McGough as part of Legends Cycle III.
  • The naming convention established by Pyrdolon en-Kor was later used during Tempest block with the design of the Kor, influenced the design of [[Ghostfire]], and may have inspired the story of Zendikar block and the Eldrazi. That's a lot for a Legend that's still stuck on the Reserved List is reaching over a $1k price tag.
  • The art of Metis Nous and [[Nicol Bolas]] both provided by Edward P Beard, Jr. were accidentally switched during their Chronicles™ printing.
  • Ugin and Nicol Bolas were originally rivals and not brothers, according to Richard Garfield in an interview. They were changed to be brothers later on to "avoid the dragon yaoi allegations" confirms the designer.

My last Antiquities pack was fake, surely this is the real deal...

I was revealed to be a fraud in my last post, showing you fakes from an alternate reality where InQuest magazine spiked the drinking water and made R&D forget they had themes and mechanics in mind for their third expansion to the Richard Garfield game featuring six colors and not five. (What would they cut? White?) Here are the correct cards from the Antiquities reality we all love and remember in their artifact themed glory.

Remember when they looked like this?

So crazy that they set up the story of these two all the way back in 1994! 🤯

I think this Antiquities pack might have been a repack...

More what if/maybe submissions, but from the brother's war! I mean, um, Antiquities.

Random Facts & Trivia:

  • Xeron Soldier was confirmed to have the test play name of "Xerox Soldier."
  • Antiquities features the first instance of the "Skrump" mechanic (which would later evolve into the skrimp mechanic from Throne of Eldraine) in which a creature becomes an artifact.
  • Interplanetary Port was the first "storage" land, the counters were later errata'd to be such.
  • Transmogrify Creature is mirror pair with [[Transmute Artifact]] it remains banned in Legacy, restricted in Vintage, and on the Reserved List to this day.
  • Climate Shift is arguably one of the first "story spotlight" cards, alluding to the events of The Dark and Ice Age block.
  • Invasion from Beyond the Stars inspired the infamous "Frosted Flakes" deck in Extended when that was a format was still around.

More LEB cards (Lavender Edition Beta)

Here's another pack of purple cards from the what if alpha had purple set that I have been mucking around with the last couple of days. Part what if/part maybe submissions for a future cube, balance is hit or miss as per alpha.

Random Trivia:

  • Pilgrim of Ak is part of a four card set including [[Pearled Unicorn]], [[Scathe Zombies]] and [[Gray Ogre]] colloquially known as "Gray Ogres."
  • Circle of Protection: Purple was originally printed with different art, but it was changed during Lavender Edition Beta because of the artist being racist.
  • Dreamscape Hero features art by the late Sam Kieth (R.I.P.) and is a mirror pair of [[Uthden Troll]].
  • Extrastellar Dome and Psionic Barrier feature the first instances of the keyword that would later become shroud, granting it to a land and yourself, respectively.
  • Crystallize is part of a set of cards including [[Flashfires]] and [[Tsunami]] that destroy all basic lands of an enemy color.
  • Xenocephalid, alongside [[Giant Spider]] was the most reprinted creature, being featured in every core set, until Magic: 2013 was released.
  • Alien Jungle was originally printed with the text "Counts as both a mountain and nebula" but it was corrected to "Counts as both forest and nebula" during the Lavender Edition Beta print, though the Lavender Edition Beta print featured a typo "and is affect by spells" instead of "and is affect by spells". Maybe on the Unlimited print run.
  • Flying Saucer, Psionic Barrier, Clerics of Ak and Alien Jungle are all on the Reserved List, congrats!

What do you mean I can't use my purple Arabian Nights cards in Vintage?

I really gotta get my alternate reality trade binders sorted out, this is getting ridiculous.

Another "What if?/Hellscube 9" thread, but this time its Arabian Nights!

Oops, I accidentally brought my old cards from the reality where Magic has six colors.

One half hellscube-ish design, one half what if. What would you do for purple if it was in Alpha?

I apologize for the utterly atrocious formatting, I wanted to be *authentic*

Notes: In the authentic nature of Alpha, Alien Jungle has a typo - it should say forest instead of mountain.

Crouching Ogre, Hidden Dreadmaw

This one is just a dumb mechanical joke that doesn't have a slot for Hecklands, but the pun was too good to not post.
