Update on progress

The comparison between all 12 frigates has passed phase 1, the basic data (HP, Agility, Speed, and concealment). Some of the offence was finished. Should be able to finish as promised.

Left to do:

  1. Rest of phase 2 (Offence) surface
  2. Offence ASW
  3. Defence (AA)
  4. Notes on each ship and recommendation

Progress (25% DONE)

The Three Russian Battleships. (Admiral Isakov) (Kronshtadt) (Moscow)

So as u/PoppaBadWolf Requested, we'll be comparing the Russian BBs. The request was to compare Isakov and Moscow, but I decided to Include Kronshtadt, because why not.

Disclaimer: This post is based entirely on theory, so actual performance may differ according to situation, map, enemy types and their skill + that of the user. Different playstyles may not suit the ships, so keep this in mind.

So first, we need to understand how each is described and their expected purpose, because they give an idea of what the designer was thinking while building the ship.

POC RF Kronshtadt RF Admiral Isakov RF Moscow
In-Game Description A concept for a Russian battleship equipped with guided missile weaponry and stealth technology. The ship features a wide array of modern armaments, including a twin large-caliber plasma railgun and an experimental medium-range ballistic missile. The project of a modern Russian multi-purpose battleship. The primary guns used on this battleship are the six 280mm naval guns. The guns are housed in two 3-gun turrets in the forward of the battleship's superstructure. The battleship also equipped with a wide range of anti-submarine and missile weapons. Design of a modern Russian guided-missile battleship. Combines classic three-gun turrets combined with the latest weapons and defense systems.

So let us compare the general characteristics:

POC Kronshtadt Isakov Moscow
Price (Compared to each other) Mid Cheapest Overpriced (?)
Size Smallest Longest Fattest
HP 604,500 533,000 565,500
Speed 21.48 Knots 19.71 Knots 21.48 Knots
Agility 10.4 9.49 9.75
Detectability (Arial) 5.59Km (6% Stealth) 5.81Km 5.95Km

So far, we can say that Isakov is struggling to be in the competition, while Kronshtadt is taking the lead, but we still have the weapons

Weapons in comparison:

  • Missile: (YJ-20) & (Type-07 SUM)
  • AA: (Garpun) & (KSAM)
  • Torpedo: (Type-89)
  • Autocannon: (Paket-NK)
  • GL: (RBU-10000)

And we'll allocate the weapons as follows:

Slot Kronshtadt Isakov Moscow
Missiles (x2 YJ-20), (x2 Type-07 SUM)+ -Locked- x2 YJ-20 + -Locked- x1 YJ-20, x1 YJ-20
GL --- x3 RBU-10000 -Locked-
Torpedo --- x2 Type-89 ---
Autocannon --- -Locked- x2 Paket-NK
AA x2 Garpun + -Locked- x4 Garpun, x4 KSAM x4 Garpun, x2 Garpun, x4 KSAM

And now things are going south for Kronshtadt, but let's see the capabilities:

POC Kronshtadt Isakov Moscow
Surface Burst 405,600 365,066 357,412
Surface DPM 2,464,939 2,464,140 1,882,565
Air DPM 360,833 296,299 291,198
ASW DPM 451,374 1,128,399 1,302,391

Analysis:

Kronshtadt Isakov Moscow
Very Heavy Surface Offence Good surface DPM and AA Best Vs Subs
Powerful AA (?) Strong Vs Submarines Underwhelming DPM
Weakest Vs Submarines Locked missile is mid at best Weakest AA
Has no way to block torpedoes Can intercept torps if GL used can. (The one in the comparison cannot) AA can be boosted by Skyranger, Can Block torps thanks to GL & Paket-NK
HP is HUGE (Comparable to Yamato) Has low HP (Comparable to Pyotr) Easiest to detect
Stealthy, fast, agile

My opinion on them:

  • Kronshtadt: Feels underrated, has a powerful gun, the most missiles, including a great unflareable locked one, very survivable. I want to get the thing.
  • Isakov: No offence but what the actual fuck is this? Slow, turn like a brick, has a shitty ah locked missile and has the durability of a cruiser. Worst main gun. Pass.
  • Moscow: Good, but overpriced. A subs worst nightmare, very modifiable compared to the other two, but least number of missiles. Should be cheaper than Kronshtadt. May get it.

So yeah, that's all. But I am not sure about Kronshtadt because I rarely see it and not sure how good the AA is in actual combat. But AA aside, the ship is great. Isakov is not very good, and Moscow feels overpriced.

What are your opinions on those 3?

(This is an opinion and there is a chance I miscalculated something, & I'd appreciate your thoughts on them)

If you have excess gold or you're waiting for the sale in may and want one of those battleships: (Yamato, Missouri, Massa) then this is for you. We're gonna take a look at all 3 and compare them.

Disclaimer: This is for AC-Poor F2P players, so we're comparing them with each other and not with the entirety of battleships of the game. Also this is an opinion, the ultimate decision is yours.

So for starters, you need to understand 2 main things:

  1. Massa is not a real battleship, and by that I mean it's classification is off, and that brings us to the 2nd point
  2. What Is a battleship anyways?

A battleship is a large, heavily armoured warship designed for surface combat, featuring a main battery of high-calibre guns.

So while Massa may be heavily armed or armoured, it lacks the gun that makes it a real battleship. In fact Scharnhorst, a German WW2 battleship was questioned due to it’s relatively small guns (Same guns on Spee in the game).

"Does size matter? USS Massachusetts is a battleship with small guns"

Is what you may hear, and allow me to enlighten you, it does, because during the London/Washington naval treaty, not sure which, but the pre-ww2 one, Japan went around the treaty that limited the amount and size of capital vessels by building the cruiser Mogami as a non-capital light cruiser by giving it a small gun, then gave it a bigger heavy cruiser one. So guns decide the classification of the surface combatants, especially battleships.

Massa is basically a battlecruiser just like the Kirov and her sisters.

That leaves Missouri and Yamato. Both are real battleships, and were actually built. What we know about both ships is that they were both outdated by the time they entered service thanks to carriers. While Missouri enjoys a better AA, radar, and speed, Yamato had superior durability thanks to her design (Check the battle of the Sibuyan sea and Operation Ten-Go), her superior fire power and thicker armour.

Now for the actual comparison:

  • Missile: ( 3 x YJ-20 for Massa) ( 3 x Type-07 SUM for Missouri)
  • Torpedoes: (Type-89)
  • Autocannon: Paket-NK
  • AA: Garpun & KSAM (x2 On Massa)
POC Yamato Missouri Massa
HP 611K 585K 539K
Speed 16.93 Knots 20.22 Knots 21.48 Knots
Agility 8.06 7.8 9.1
Concealment (Arial, because it is the furthest) 5.95 Km 5.24 Km (?) 5.33 Km (6% Stealth)
Surface Burst (DPM) 314,070 (1,434,281) 323,550 (1,399,750) 373,200 (Flareable --> 260,100Dmg) (DPM= 2,637,959)
Air DPM 108,960 445,653 (Bofors Included (Vs missiles = 125,159)) 176,799
ASW DPM --- 677,061 1,847,687
Aviation Biplanes Heli Heli

Numbers aside, what are the pros and cons generally?

POC Yamato Missouri Massa
Pros Heavy Unflareable firepower, very durable and restores HP more than any other ship. Has many biplanes, can be used as scouts (Historical use, and the best use for them here), fighters (When desperate), or strike (Best used to haunt an enemy submarine, except Belgorod). The bridge between Massa and Yamato. Has missiles (ASW preferred). Big guns, but weaker than Yamato's and less accurate. Bofors cannon can shoot aircraft, manually, but will disturb aim. Fast and agile. Basically Kirov with less AA and bigger guns. Fast and agile. Has stealth and is most concealed over all. The most AA and only one with torps. Has GL. Very Comparable to Pyotr Velikey. Same AA, Same missiles, less torps, more autocannons. Less GL, but superior gunnery.
Cons No ASW, bad aa, Glacier like mobility and has the size and concealment of Mt. Fuji. No GL No anti torpedo weapons, relatively mid AA potential. Bad concealment and is massive (More length than Yamato, but thinner). No GL GL is locked, and will not last a 1 V 1 against neither Yamato nor Missouri. Can't compete as a real battleship, but more like a Battlecruiser

Relevance

Yamato Missouri Massa
Not very relevant as missile spamming is the current meta, especially not that there are many unflareable ones + the damn Hellcat. However, guns are still relevant so that's where Yamato shines best. Can half the HP of CVs and ACVs, and even Itself. Somewhat relevant because it carries missiles and guns. However, it cannot get in the open with a Yamato, unless you really want to know the difference between a 406mm gun and a 460mm one. Good aa, but not enough against the insane swarms of unflareable missiles. So uhh, wth is this thing? Personally I don't know how it is relevant. I mean, you're better off with Pyotr, the ship this one seems to struggle while keeping up with. This battlecruiser is only slightly relevant because of AA and torps, but then again, Pyotr does the same job, and having a locked GL isn't helping at all.
Battleships, Japanese WW2 ones, rely on carriers to provide cover. Their doctrine is opposite to that of the US, where they use surface ships to provide air cover, which explains Yamato's horrible AA. Best option is to find another ship, like Varyag, to provide air cover, especially against Ballistic missiles. Missouri, like Yamato, preferably need an escorting ship. A team of Yamato and Missouri is something I don't wish on my worst enemy, especially small ones who decide to go in the open. I used Pyotr and didn't notice the 2 once, and I was in port in like 5 seconds. They are very situational and require strong teamplay and skill from the user, so they are NOT beginner friendly. You get Less Gl, less torpedoes, for what? Some Railguns and an extra Auto cannon? Nah screw this thing. It has the same AA quantity as well. If Missouri is the bridge between the old and new warfare, this is a battlecruiser pretending to be a battleship. But being more modern has its charms, mainly suiting the meta more. Is still very useable and effective in the right hands, and I plan to buy it and Missouri, cause I already got Yamato

What You will love:

Yamato and Missouri Massa
Deleting those Frigates in seconds Feels familiar since it is a modern BB
Feeling Immortal, while making them aware of their Mortality. Make submarines Wary of your presence

What You won't like:

Yamato Missouri Massa
Becoming a Carrier's punching bag. Getting Bullied by a stray cat (Hellcat) Not a BB, not a Cruiser
Moving like Titanic's Iceberg, hoping they ignore you till it's too late Getting eliminated by Yamato's guns cause you can't block them Getting oofed by any proper BB
POV: You hate Submarines and their steel dolphins + Ten-GO POV: You hate the unflareable thingies, and the flying Kitty POV: Identity crisis + Avoid confrontation with real battleships

Sooo, yeah. I personally picked Yamato because of my experience in WoWs legends, so I CAN shoot beyond 10Km, and even blind shooting. Missouri is great and more versatile, Massa is..... Massa. Depending on your preferences and playstyle, you can get any of them.

Yamato Missouri Massa
Gunnery experts Gunnery experts Subs fear you
Needs good map awareness Can still attack subs You feel hesitant about regular BBs
Subs = Nightmare Do not use Bofors against air unless idle. Locked Gl hampers your strength

Alternatives:

  • Pyotr for Massa
  • Missouri and Yamato have no Gold or Dollar alternatives.

See what ship you feel comfortable with the most and buy it, playstyle and situation can affect your efficiency with said ship.

  • If you're a hesitant person or feel conflicted, get Missouri.
  • If you can aim the guns right and you know when to be where, get Yamato.
  • If you want a modern stealth battleship that fits the current meta the most get Massa.

Whatever you choose, remember: "Leave no regrets, cause you will get them all eventually"

The devs need to redo the Yamato so that the type-93 autocannon becomes an anti-aircraft gun, same with the Type-89 cannons (All 12 of them, Auto and manual) because they were all dual purpose like the Bofors on Missouri, and maybe then Yamato will be feared as should be. (Only shoot the Aircraft, no missiles, except Type-93 because it is an AA (13mm))

Good luck captains.

Edit: I added Massa's DPM, OMG that thing deals a lot of damage. However, Keep in mind that all but the guns and Massa's GL can be destroyed somehow. Massa is better at long fights, the other two should finish it ASAP, or they will suffer.

I will also add the Maximum surface DPM possible (At point-blank range, ambush mode) and include the autocannons.

  1. Massa (2,637,959)
  2. Yamato (1,764,795)
  3. Missouri (1,399,750)

So yeah, Massa should prolong the fight, the other 2 should keep it brief. Once again, this is all theory, and Massa's DPM from missiles and torps will drop because of flares, AA, and anti-torpedo weapons.

If you have good market equipment, then Massa is your ship, if you don't have what it takes to properly equip Massa get Missouri or Yamato.

I'd like to thank (malik_rattlehead) for his comment, because it made me revise the stats once more.

As someone who already own Pyotr, I have many reasons to feel underwhelmed when seeing Kirov, but i like the idea of extra cannon and aa. So I'm going to do a deep comparison on their statistics and potential. (I may say things that are a bit inaccurate though)

Point of comparison TARK Pyotr Velikiy TARK Kirov
HP 526.5K 520K
Speed 20.97 Knots 23.25 Knots
Agility 8 9.1

So far Kirov is relatively superior, but here is where i get conflicted:

Weapon TARK Pyotr Velikiy TARK Kirov
Missile x3 x3
Cannons x1 x2
Torpedoes x3 ---
Autocannons x2 ---
AA x6 x8 (+1 Locked)

So if I do the math, using the:

  • Missile (YJ-20)
  • Cannon (MKE-76)
  • GL (RBU-10000)
  • Torpedo (Type-89) Pyotr Only
  • AA#1 (Garpun) --> x4 On Pyotr, x2 On Kirov
  • AA#2 (KSAM) --> x2 on both
  • AA#3 (RIM-8 Talos Nuke/Garpun) --> x2 Kirov Only
  • AA#4 (Palash) --> x2 Kirov Only
  • AA#5 (S300F) --> Locked on Kirov
  • Autocannon (Paket-NK) --> x2 Pyotr Only

You get

POC TARK Pyotr Velikiy TARK Kirov
Surface Burst (No Torpedo) 325,100 Burst 427,900 Burst
Surface Burst + (Torps) 449,900 Burst 427,900 Burst
DPM (All Surface Weapons) 2,483,630 2,107,077
DPM VS Air 176,799 255,487 NUKE/ 256,136
DPM VS Air (+Cannon) 279,599 461,087 NUKE/ 461,736
ASW Burst & (DPM) 234,000 (1,366,113) 109,200 (652,971)

So, Kirov has a devastatingly superior AA yet still competes for surface damage with Pyotr. The biggest drawback on Kirov is it's inferior ASW capabilities. The reason the Talos-8 Nuke is not good on Pyotr is that there are less aa slots compared to Kirov, who can use the thing despite it's slow reload because it would still have 7 more AAs to support, more than the entirety of Pyotr's 6 AA (Kirov has the S300F advantage, although it is not the best). Pyotrs AA can be bolstered by Skyranger autocannon.

So, should I get Kirov? BTW those are the stats of my expected build. If yes, does anyone have better suggestions in the AA?

(Disclaimer: For people with 0 Gacha or market equipment, only Gold and Dollars, if you spend money on this game, then this post is not for you)

As a F2P player, I struggle to keep up with the P2W players, especially when a new item drops. Hellcat being probably the most absurd aircraft in the game. So how can we survive in this meta? Especially for CV people.

So generally, there are 3 different builds for 3 styles, and you could be the 4th one😅.

There are things in common in all builds, those being:

  • Missile: Best use YJ-29 or Hycore, not X-51 because you want to fire and go use a heli or something.
  • GL: Type 726-4A for anti-torpedo and subs
  • AA: Singles slot (Ulyanovsk, ROKS CVX) --> Garpun, Missile and gun hybrid.
  • AA: 2 Slots (America, 003 Fujian, Gerald R. Ford) --> Garpun + KSAM, KSAM is good for ballistic, won't block all, and is not good at intercepting swarms of weak missiles
  • Heli: Black Ghost Ka-58
  • Auto-cannon: BOFORS 40/L70, Can boost AA
  • Fighter: J-20
  • Drone: FL-71

The difference is in the builds promoting these playstyles is mostly in the strike aircraft.

1) Shoot From Afar, Safe play:

F-35 SU-57
Good Long range, can shoot missiles beyond 6Km with ease, but can be flared easily Good Long range, can shoot missiles beyond 6Km with ease, but can be flared easily
Highest store Burst Damage, Almost the double of any other, yet ironically the lowest surface DPM of all. Higher Surface DPM, faster, more durable, more agile, but more detectible. Does not hover like F-35.
(+) Good As a long-range static missile platform (+) Strike-rearm cycle is shorter, causes more damage overall

2) Mid-range, Chaos

Rafale M F/A-XX FC-31
(+) Damage Vs Subs, high arial DPM (+) Fastest, most agile and stealthiest, highest arial DPM (+) Highest Surface DPM, most durable, and strongest Burst and best gun
(-) Weakest HP (-) Lowest Surface DPM (-) Only 2 pieces, and least mobile
(!) Shortest range (5KM) Gun excluded (!) Has Unflareable missile, low damage, medium range (5.33Km), gun excluded (!) Longest Range (5.67Km)
(>) Shortest Gun Range (2.67Km) (>) Shortest Gun Range (2.67Km) (<) Longest Gun Range, and generally the strongest on F2P aircraft (4KM)

3) Cruiser-Mode, Vodka go brrrrrt: (Ulyanovsk only)

Use whatever you would use on a cruiser, not recommended for players who hate slow ships. Ulyanovsk is Good for people who have 0 experience with CVs and want a less aviation dependent CV (details: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModernWarships/comments/1sc03fl/what_is_a_good_beginnerfriendly_carrier_in_tier_3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button )

This is a list based on my personal experience (I'm LV.46) with CVs, I had the MiG-31, but my playstyle favoured the FC-31

https://preview.redd.it/uavhjj722syg1.png?width=1256&format=png&auto=webp&s=861c95ff1775823c2c08b43758608f723392ddb4

Last thing I want to say is that your playstyle defines what you use, and i personally favour the FC-31, because of its high damage, and it has 2 figures with high HP, meaning they are more durable individually, making losing them less frequent, while the 3 figures with lower HP individually, but slightly higher combined HP, I usually lose 1 of the 3 figures, but less frequently with the 2 figures.

That's all I have to add, and if you have access to good market equipment then ignore this post and go somewhere else.

If you have better loadout options please share in comments. (Remeber this loadout is totally F2P, and the items were compared to one another and not with AC equipment or Gacha. Try Them to check the suitable one)

Good Luck, & Fair Seas (Skies)

I am F2P, and very poor when it comes to AC, so is this thing worth it? A fixed x2 Cannon (I plan to treat it as a manual AA) that tickles, and a locked x2 mid-range AA. 2x2 Missiles and 2x2 GL makes it like Nakhimov, but can carry 2 different GLs, each x2, and has 2 more AA mounts (4 if we count the locked one, Nakhimov = 6, Kerch = 8 + 2 locked).

The cannons are the real turn off. I have the MKE-76, so that locked gun is useless in comparison. But when compared to Nakhimov, Kerch got 2 Guns vs 1, so the DPM of Kerch will be half that of Nakhimov (112K x 2 : 426K). Not a good gun at all, but can still be used as an AA, so ok i guess?

My Expected Build assuming i get the ship (Completely F2P)

  • x2 YJ-20 (Missile)
  • x2 X-51 (Missile)
  • x2 RBU-10000 (GL)
  • x2 Pinaka MK3 (GL)
  • x3 KSAM (AA-Long range 4.7KM)
  • x5 Garpun (AA-short/low-Mid range, 2.7KM for the Gun half, 3.1KM for missile half; Hybrid AA)
  • Locked x2 S-300F fort (AA-High-Mid range, 3.9KM)
  • Locked AK-100 cannon (Shitty cannon, Very-Long range AA weapon; +6KM)
  • Ka-58 Black Ghost Heli

Any other suggestions not involving AC or Gacha equipment? (Only Gold/Dollar; got 45K of Gold)

Should i get Kerch in the first place?

reddit.com
u/Quiet_Marionberry_20 — 14 days ago

With the sale coming up I plan to get an ACV. Does anyone have suggestions? If so, tell me why. I am F2P and the only AC thing I got is MiG-31, and I plan to get the Super Kai. I have the RBU-10000 as my GL. My current build (regardless of which ACV) will be:

  • Missile: YJ-20, GL: RBU-10000
  • Auto-cannon: Paket or Skyranger/the new autocannon from the recent event.
  • MiG-31/F-2 Super Kai
  • J-20 Mighty Dragon
  • Xian Bomber from dollar store
  • Black Ghost Heli
  • FL drone from the store
  • Garpun and KSAM/Laser aa from the event

That's my build, any suggestions on that as well? Should I get a Bomber/Drone instead of Super Kai? I have 755 AC, so yeah, tight budget.
