Existing versions (Standard/Wide) will continue to receive basic updates, but free upgrades to Pro are not supported due to platform policies. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
r/ProductivityApps : Pre-release Talk
This explains the upgrades from QWERTY mini to QWERTY mini Pro.
- Wide and Standard modes are now unified, and you can instantly switch between them by simply swiping left or right on the spacebar.
- Supports most extended Roman characters, which can be selected and entered with an upward swipe.
- The split layout available in landscape mode provides a new typing experience, enabling comfortable typing with a stable grip in any position.
- Main punctuation marks (., ’, ?, !) are now available directly on the main screen, making punctuation input highly efficient.
- There have been improvements to the overall design and usability.
Trade-off
The initial key layout may feel unfamiliar, and there is a slight delay with double-tap input. However, most users adapt immediately, although achieving high-speed typing may take a bit more time.
QWERTY mini is a mobile-optimized keyboard designed to work alongside QWERTY.
I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially from people who type a lot on mobile.
QWERTY mini Pro enhances the original design with improved usability and flexibility.
- Unified Standard & Wide modes - switch instantly by swiping the spacebar
- Extended characters - enter quickly with an upward swipe
- Landscape split mode - comfortable two-hand typing
- Direct punctuation access - (., ’, ?, !) on the main screen
- Refined design - improved overall usability
Short Video
In standard mode, one-handed typing is very comfortable using just tap and double-tap.
However, for average-sized hands, it works best on smartphones around 6 inches or smaller.
QWERTY feels cramped on small phones.
But QWERTY mini's fewer, larger keys make typing easier with fewer typos.
What keyboard do you usually use on a small phone?
Current Development Focus
We are currently focused on developing QWERTY mini Pro, and future updates will be centered on the Pro version.

QWERTY mini Pro - Overview
This explains the upgrades from QWERTY mini to QWERTY mini Pro.

Pro Version Expansion Potential
If the Pro version gains strong support from users, it will likely be possible in the near future to develop dedicated versions for German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Chinese Pinyin, as well as a tablet version.
Additionally, if a sufficient user base is secured, features such as predictive text, auto-correction, and gesture input may be introduced in a future QWERTY mini 2.0 version. These are unlikely in the near term and may involve major companies as development expands.
User Feedback & Suggestions
Suggestions applied to the Pro version
- Integration of Standard and Wide versions
- Multilingual extended character support
- Direct period, question mark, and comma input on main screen
- Left-right split layout in landscape mode
- Added several symbols
- and more
Suggestions that may be possible in future updates
- 2-step keyboard height adjustment with instant switching via spacebar up/down swipe - We will include it in a future update.
- Spacebar screen switching sensitivity adjustment - We will include it in a future update.
- Emoji and clipboard input - To be considered in a future update.
- Extended character priority adjustment - To be considered in a future update.
- and more
Suggestions that are difficult to implement at this time
- Predictive text, auto-correct, swipe/gesture typing - Not considered for now, as it does not fit the local keyboard design.
- Haptic feedback integration (vibration and sound) - Currently difficult to implement due to Apple and Google policy restrictions.
- Alternative number key layouts - under review, but not implemented due to potential UI complexity.
- and more
Remaining issue
Enter key not switching to Search key (Android-specific)
- On a small number of Android devices, the Enter key may not switch to the Search key in some Google input fields (such as Google widgets) due to IME restrictions. However, this does not affect most devices.
QWERTY mini is a secure local keyboard.
Advanced features such as AI integration, predictive text, auto-correct, and gesture input are not currently planned, as they do not align with QWERTY mini’s simplicity-focused philosophy at this stage.
Input Method
[Tap / Double tap]
All sentences can be typed comfortably using only tap and double tap.
[Simultaneous tap]
Advanced feature for fast two-handed typing. Edge keys (W, A, O, L) act as simultaneous input triggers.
Example:
O + T/G → T, TT, TTT...
L + T/G → G, GG, GGG... and so on
Press a trigger key together with a character key to instantly type the first or second character on that key - no double tap delay. You can also repeat letters instantly (rr, tt, ss, dd, cc, pp…).
[Up-swipe]
Swipe up on a key to access extended characters for multilingual input and additional symbols. Only in the Pro version. Much faster than long-press and drag selection. Swipe input is supported

Why is QWERTY mini comfortable to use on a smartphone?
the traditional 26-key, 3-row QWERTY layout has too many small keys with thumb typing.
QWERTY mini provides a 16-key, 2-row layout.
1. 16-key Symmetric 2-row layout makes the up-and-down movement extremely comfortable. Each key becomes up to 66% larger. (cf. From the iPhone Pro to the Pro Max gives about a 20% increase.)
2. The most important principle is that vowels form the central axis of a word. The five vowels (A, E, U, I, O) remain as standalone keys in their original QWERTY positions, eliminating conflicts with consonants and preserving a natural typing flow. (This directly addresses the core problems that other reduced-key layouts failed to solve.)
3. Frequency-based consonant integration.10 letters (Q, Z, X, V, B, J, K, F, G, P) appear in about 10% of English text.
4. You can type everything using just tap and double-tap. Simultaneous taps with the four trigger keys (W, A, O, L) are entirely optional and provide faster input with reduced latency.
5. It is a structure optimized for multilingual extended characters and split layouts in landscape mode, even if these features are introduced later in the Pro version.
QWERTY mini is not a replacement for QWERTY. it's the companion for smartphones.
Based on this idea, I built QWERTY mini.
